In the climax of Retribution, it is revealed that the mastermind behind all the chaos is none other than Anders Muller, the CEO of Matt Turner’s company. He faked his own death and staged the accidents to cover his tracks while secretly embezzling money from the company and planning to escape with the stolen fortune. The entire kidnapping and bomb threats were part of his plan to manipulate Matt into transferring the company’s offshore funds into Anders’ own account, eliminating any suspicion from himself. As Matt fights to save himself and his family, he ultimately confronts Anders in a tense car chase. In a desperate move, Matt drives the car into a guardrail, causing it to topple into a river. During this dangerous ordeal, Matt manages to detach himself from the car, activating the pressure plate to ensure he falls into the water along with Anders, who is blown apart in the explosion. Matt survives the explosion and makes it ashore, where the authorities, including Europol, arrive. With Anders dead, Matt clears his name of any involvement in the bombing or the conspiracy, and the police confirm him as innocent.

At the end, Matt’s harrowing ordeal prompts him to reflect on his relationship with his family. Having been so focused on work and neglectful of his loved ones, the events make him realize the importance of family and being present for them. Though reconciliation with Heather remains uncertain, Matt’s experience has awakened a new sense of responsibility and hope.
