Rekha

Rekha, a young woman in a small town, has finished her sports school and is preparing for PSC exams while living with her parents. She is dating Arjun, who works at his father’s neighborhood shop, and their bond is tested by secrecy and desire. On Arjun’s birthday, he texts and video calls her, asking her to stay on the line with the intention of self-pleasuring, a moment Rekha tries to manage without waking the rest of the family. Arjun slips into her house with snacks from the shop, they share a kiss, and they consummate their relationship. He then mentions Rekha’s dead puppy and suggests that if the dog were alive, they could not have slept together; Rekha asks whether he caused its death and agrees to poisoning it. Arjun apologizes, they sleep together again, and Rekha feels a sense of discomfort about his confession.

The next morning, Rekha’s mother discovers her father dead on the patio, casting a shadow over the family. Rekha grows suspicious that Arjun may be connected to this death as well. She tries to reach him after the funeral, but his absence is noted by his friends, leaving her with more questions than answers. A few days later, she finds a cigarette butt in the front yard that doesn’t match the one Arjun discarded, deepening her unease. She attempts to locate his contact through his employer, only to learn that he is not in town. From his friend Jayakrishnan, she learns that Arjun left for Kottayam after borrowing money, about 500 Rupees, with help from his uncle who lives in their town. The trauma of the events pushes Rekha to seek help from a doctor, where she opens up about her relationship and the feeling that her father’s death might be connected to it.

Rekha travels to Ernakulam and encounters Kannan, who reveals that Arjun’s father had a troubling history as well and probes whether Arjun misbehaved with her. Kannan invites her to his place after his shift to meet Arjun, but the encounter turns coercive when Kannan behaves inappropriately with Rekha. She defends herself, using her wrestling background to break his nose. Kannan asserts that Arjun is not his nephew and explains that Arjun had sought his help after an affair with an Anganwadi teacher, Savitha, was exposed. He calls Arjun over as Rekha confronts him about being AWOL and about the death of her father. Arjun admits that after leaving Rekha’s house, her father caught him and he pushed him before fleeing. Rekha shares this confession with a trusted friend, vowing to hold Arjun accountable if his story isn’t true.

Seeking more answers, Rekha calls her mother to obtain Savitha’s number, learning that Savitha had committed suicide after her affair was discovered by her husband. Rekha then contacts Jayakrishnan to uncover the identity of the other man involved, but no one could recall his face. She begins following Arjun, a move that unsettles him, and when he finally calls to arrange a meeting, he asks her to stop tailing him, insisting he did not kill her father. Rekha presses him about Savitha’s death and the police investigation, and he finally confesses that he did indeed kill Rekha’s father. A violent confrontation ensues: Rekha overpowers Arjun and stabs him in his private parts as he bleeds, deepening the wound, and she asks him whether he killed her father before or after kissing her. A flashback then reveals that Arjun killed Rajendran before he slept with Rekha, a revelation that reframes the entire narrative.

Days later, the police pursue Arjun in connection with Saritha and reach Rekha for questioning about the events. Rekha explains that she had been involved with Arjun but did not realize how crooked he was until later, and she travels to Ernakulam in search of him to gain closure. When questioned about her injuries, she tells the police they occurred during house chores, and the investigation unfolds with soldiers of truth and consequence in the air. The film closes with a quiet, definitive moment: the police ask for her name, and Rekha answers with a combination that marks her new identity, Rekha Rajendran.
