Nicola Six, portrayed by Amber Heard, possesses extraordinary clairvoyant abilities that reveal her tragic fate; she predicts her own death at the hands of a man she has yet to identify. In a desperate attempt to unveil the identity of her killer, she embarks on entanglements with three different men.
The narrative begins with Samson Young, played by Billy Bob Thornton, a terminally ill American novelist who relocates to London, exchanging homes with the writer Mark Asprey, portrayed by Jason Isaacs. Their journey is accompanied by Keith Talent, interpreted by Jim Sturgess, a brash taxi driver whose uncouth demeanor is shadowed by his exceptional skill at darts.
Upon arriving at Mark’s home, Keith introduces Samson to a local pub called the Black Cross, where he encounters Guy Clinch (Theo James), a well-off scion grappling with a loveless marriage to his wife, Hope (Jaimie Alexander). As they delve into their new dynamics, it becomes evident that Guy’s son is a source of turmoil, constantly wreaking havoc yet drawing the attention of both Keith and Samson.
As Keith spirals deeper into debt with turbulent loan sharks, including swaggering darts rival Chick Purchase, they stumble upon Nicola, who has arrived at the pub following a funeral. While Keith makes a clumsy advance, Guy chooses a more restrained approach, though both are undeniably intrigued by her.
Later, while strolling through the park, Samson witnesses Nicola disposing of certain books—upon retrieving them, he uncovers the unsettling truth: Nicola has the ability to visualize the deaths of those around her, including herself, predicting that her life will tragically end moments after her 30th birthday. Determined, Samson approaches Nicola at her residence, suggesting that she becomes the muse for his next novel, a proposition that annoys her yet ultimately sparks her intrigue.
Keith, fueled by his growing affection for Nicola, is unaware of her intentions. She skillfully plays both sides, feigning innocence with Guy while luring Keith into her web of deception. Guy’s protective instincts surface as he unwittingly becomes emotionally involved, while Keith’s desperation pushes him further into Nicola’s manipulative grasp.
In an unexpected twist, Nicola poses as a social service agent, setting her sights on Keith’s family, where she crosses paths with Kath Talent, portrayed by Cara Delevingne. Her taunts to Keith escalate, leading to a confrontation that only deepens the chaos surrounding their interconnected lives.
As complications ensue, including flirtations and betrayals, Samson’s masterpiece, titled The Murderee, faces rejection by his publicist. Yet, as the story escalates towards its climax, the characters forge ahead under the weight of desires and secrets, ultimately leading to a lethal confrontation on Nicola’s ominous birthday.
In a chilling finale, the truth unfolds; while Nicola accepts her grim destiny, it is because of Samson that she meets her end. He subsequently transports her lifeless body back to Mark’s residence, completing his literary creation. Renaming his work London Fields, he leaves it beside her before slipping into his final rest. When Mark discovers them the next day, he seizes the opportunity to claim Samson’s work as his own, skyrocketing to fame while Keith and Kath watch, filled with resentment.
Thus, the tangled web of love, ambition, and betrayal unravels, leaving a haunting aftermath that echoes the tragic fates intertwined within this sordid tale.
