Ratatouille

Remy, a young rat with extraordinary senses of taste and smell, dreams of becoming a chef like the late Auguste Gusteau. He nurtures his culinary ambition while living with his colony in the attic above a Parisian home. The fantasy of cooking sets him apart from the rest of the clan, who eat only to survive.

During a frantic evacuation after the old woman discovers the rats, Remy is separated from his family. He must navigate a perilous human world and survive on his own. The separation marks the start of his unlikely journey toward the restaurant.

Remy slips onto the roof of Gusteau's and spots Alfredo Linguini struggling with a ruined leek soup. He slips into the restaurant's kitchen and makes himself known to Linguini. Linguini, curious and wary, realizes he can communicate with the clever rat.

Skinner confronts Linguini about the ruined soup, fearing exposure and loss of control. Remy's hidden touch helps salvage the dish, and it unexpectedly becomes a hit with customers. The success further complicates Skinner's plans for the kitchen.

Colette Tatou, the restaurant's only female chef, persuades Skinner to keep Linguini and to embrace Gusteau's motto, 'Anyone can cook.' She begins mentoring Linguini and teaching him how to present himself as a chef. The partnership grows as Linguini gains confidence and Remy works unseen in the shadows.

Linguini discovers that Remy understands him and can guide his movements by tugging on his hair under the toque. They agree to work together, with Remy steering the cooking while Linguini stays the public face. This unlikely duo begins to transform the restaurant from within.

Under Colette's supervision, Linguini learns basic cooking while Remy refines the recipes. They recreate dishes that delight patrons, and the kitchen hums with new energy. The partnership remains hidden for now, but the restaurant's success grows.

Remy reconnects with his brother Émile and the clan outside the restaurant, but Django warns that humans are dangerous. Remy announces his intent to stay at the restaurant despite the risks. The tension between loyalty to the clan and his dream deepens.

Skinner uncovers a letter from Linguini's late mother revealing that Gusteau is Linguini's father and that Linguini is the rightful owner. The revelation shatters Skinner's plans, but he hides the evidence away to maintain control. Remy escapes with the envelope and brings it to Linguini, who then fires Skinner and ends a line of Skinner's frozen foods.

The restaurant begins thriving as Remy's recipes win over critics and diners. Linguini and Colette grow closer, sharing a budding romance as their teamwork shines. Anton Ego, the feared food critic, announces he will review the restaurant again the following day.

At a press conference, Linguini takes credit for Remy's cooking, leading to a rift between them. Frustrated by the misrepresentation, Remy launches a raid on the restaurant's pantries with his rat clan. Linguini arrives to apologize but finds the raid ongoing and expels Remy and his clan.

Skinner captures Remy, but Django and Émile free him with a daring rescue. Back at the restaurant, Remy and Linguini reconcile as Linguini reveals Remy’s techniques to the staff, who all quit in shock. Colette returns to help the clan cook under Remy's direction while Linguini waits tables.

Remy shows Colette a recipe card for ratatouille and guides the group to craft it in a refined way, the confit byaldi. This dish evokes fond memories for Anton Ego, who is introduced to the chef behind the plate without revealing the rat. Ego is deeply affected by the cooking and the story.

Skinner and a health inspector are released and Gusteau's is shut down, costing Ego his job and reputation. Remy, Linguini, and Colette open a new bistro called La Ratatouille, which Ego chooses to invest in and frequents. The new venture signals a fresh start for the now-empowered kitchen crew.

The rat colony settles into the attic of the new bistro, making it their home and base of operation. Remy remains at the center of the kitchen, guiding dishes and mentoring his clan. The story closes with the dream fulfilled through collaboration between humans and rats.
