Zhi's anxiety stems from fear of losing. Having fought so hard to save his village, the thought of being so close to victory and then losing it overwhelms him. Foreshadowing: During preparation, the timeline notes Zhi grappling with performance anxiety when in the lead, showing this struggle develops before the critical race moments.
