The tale moves to Kerala, where Williams’ lustful ambitions fall upon Devyani Kutti, daughter of the king of black magic, Marthanda Varma. When Marthanda Varma learns of George, he commands the great Yatchi palm script and instructs Yatchi to protect his daughter. That night, George, who proposes to Devyani, is killed by Yatchi. After the British depart, Yatchi is hidden away inside an idol. This chilling backstory mirrors the present danger Maya faces and explains the ghostly protection surrounding her.
Back in the present, Maya’s father claims to possess a similar Yatchi in his house. A ritual is performed to test whether the creature is still active, and the group realizes that to end the threat they must recover the palm script from the bungalow where the Yatchi was kept.
