Ghosted (2011) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of Ghosted (2011), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

A woman named Sadie Rhodes, played by Ana De Armas, begins her day by driving and speaking on the phone with her therapist, expressing her feelings about losing a coworker named Eva. Her therapist advises her to move forward, prompting Sadie to decide to stop for grocery shopping. Meanwhile, in a nearby farmer’s market, Chris Evans portrays Cole Turner, a man running an herbal shop. His friends and family believe he’s still recovering from a recent breakup and urge him to step outside his comfort zone. Sadie soon visits the same market to buy a houseplant but ends up in a lighthearted argument with Cole, who intervenes when a vendor takes a break. Their conversation sparks interest, and Cole, encouraged by the vendor, musters the courage to ask Sadie out for coffee, which she accepts.

Their date involves exploring a museum, sharing stories, and even visiting a famous staircase from The Exorcist. Later, they go to a karaoke bar where Sadie performs, though Cole, shy and hesitant, refuses to sing despite her encouragement. They share a tender moment at Sadie’s place, and their attraction grows, leading to them spending the night together.

Days later, Cole visits his family—his parents, played by Tate Donovan and Amy Sedaris, and his younger sister Mattie, portrayed by Lizzie Broadway. He’s worried because he hasn’t heard from Sadie, and even though he’s reached out multiple times, she remains distant, suggesting she might be ghosting him. Cole’s sincerity and belief that Sadie is “the one” are evident, but his family reminds him he’s a risk-averse person who hasn’t even traveled internationally.

A key moment occurs when Cole realizes he left his inhaler in Sadie’s bag. Using tracking tiles on his belongings, he discovers Sadie is in London. Determined to reunite, Cole heads to London, but things quickly turn dangerous. He is kidnapped by thugs at London Bridge and taken to an underground hideout where he’s confronted by Borislov, a villain played by [Tim Blake Nelson], who believes Cole is an undercover agent known as “The Taxman,” possessing a top-secret code. Borislov even tries to torture Cole with murder hornets, but their interrogation is interrupted by Sadie, played by [Ana De Armas], who reveals herself as a secret agent and the real Taxman. She rescues Cole and fights off Borislov’s henchmen amid a series of action-packed moments.

Sadie and Cole race through London, encountering numerous bounty hunters eager to capture Cole, who is believed to possess a dangerous bioweapon called Aztec. Their pursuit takes them across planes, underground tunnels, and remote locations. As they jump from one perilous situation to another, Sadie confesses her past — including that she killed Elena, a rogue agent, and that she’s been hiding her true identity.

Eventually, Sadie and Cole converge on a plan to use Cole as a bait by pretending he is still “The Taxman.” They orchestrate a sting in a rotating restaurant where Sadie reveals her true identity as hugh-quarshie’s character. The climax involves intense fights, a collapsing building, and Sadie shooting her way to grab Aztec, which is actually a genetic sequence hidden within an ancient houseplant. The fight concludes with Sadie and Cole managing to defeat their enemies, with Sadie shooting Leveque, a corrupt French intelligence officer played by Adrien Brody, and securing the dangerous Aztec.

In the aftermath, Sadie and Cole share a romantic moment, and Cole introduces her to his family. The story then fast-forwards three months, showing that Cole has fully embraced a new life working alongside Sadie on missions involving dangerous targets. Their bond has deepened, and they enjoy shared adventures, including a visit to a museum and a mission with a new target, all while strengthening their relationship.

Throughout their journey, both characters confront their fears, past mistakes, and the thrill of danger, ultimately finding love amid chaos. Their story is one of suspense, action, and unexpected romance, set across a globe-trotting backdrop that showcases themes of trust, redemption, and the power of second chances.
