Five years after the events of the series, Carmilla [Natasha Negovanlis] Karnstein and Laura Hollis [Elise Bauman] are making a life together in Toronto. Laura, now pursuing a career as a journalist, navigates the day-to-day challenges of a budding reporter while Carmilla enjoys the strange, comforting benefits of being human again. Yet Laura’s nights are troubled by vivid dreams that feel more like memories—visions of Carmilla’s past that hint at a fragility in Carmilla’s regained humanity. As Laura’s sleep is fractured, Carmilla’s vampire instincts begin to surface once more, creating an uneasy tension between their desires for a normal life and the pull of the old life Carmilla once led.

Their friends step in to help when Perry [Annie Briggs] Perr and LaFontaine [Kaitlyn Alexander] notice something shifting inside Carmilla. The once-bright spark of humanity that kept Carmilla buoyant—what the group calls “The Spark”—seems to be fading. Desperate for answers and convinced there is a link between Laura’s nightmares and Carmilla’s wavering humanity, the circle sets out on a journey that leads them far from home to a secluded mansion in Austria. The mood shifts from tentative hope to mystic urgency as they confront a past that Carmilla thought she had left behind.

At the Austrian mansion, they are greeted by the ghosts of Carmilla’s past—the young women who were sacrificed in her mother’s rituals and who now linger, unable to cross over into the afterlife. Despite their grim histories, these spirits reveal a path forward: an Ash Moon Ritual that could sever their prolonged suffering. The ritual requires Carmilla to willingly surrender her mortality and human life by channeling that life into a gem and then destroying the gem. The group agrees that this selfless act could grant the souls peace, but it hinges on Carmilla’s willingness to part with the life she and Laura have built together.

A masquerade party hosted by the spirits becomes a turning point. Carmilla, in a bold, painful moment, channels her humanity into the gem. But the moment is ripped away when the gem is stolen—culminating in the reveal that the thief is Elle Sheridan [Dominique Provost-Chalkley], Carmilla’s friend and long-vanished love from centuries past. Elle has grown into something dark and sociopathic as a spirit, resentful of the life Carmilla and Laura have found together. Her plan is to steal Carmilla’s life itself, all while casting the other ghosts into a nightmare realm that once imprisoned them. Elle’s betrayal cuts deep, targeting not just Carmilla and Laura but also LaFontaine and the others, and she stalks and picks off Laura and Carmilla’s friends, pushing them into the dimension and using Charlotte as a trap in a bid to trap the entire group.

A fierce confrontation ensues, with Elle using Charlotte as bait and forcing a clash that spills into the nightmare realm. Laura, ever resilient, discovers that the nightmare dimension forces its captives to relive their worst memories in a personal, torturous Hell. In this twisted landscape, Carmilla’s darkest memory unfolds: Elle’s betrayal. Yet Laura and Carmilla manage to rally the others, freeing the ghosts and their friends from the trap and rallying them to complete the Ash Moon ritual. Elle interrupts again, pressing a knife to Carmilla’s throat and demanding the life-giving gem. Laura’s pleas fall on deaf ears, but Mel [Nicole Stamp] fires, subduing Elle and clearing the way for the ritual to proceed. With Elle neutralized, the ritual completes, and the ghosts are finally freed to move on to the afterlife.

Back home, Carmilla and Laura face the practical and emotional question of how their relationship will evolve now that Carmilla must exist as a vampire again. Laura’s stance is clear: she doesn’t view Carmilla’s vampiric nature as a problem, and the two reaffirm their love for one another. In a sense of hopeful continuity, the post-credits hints tease a future filled with adventure and discovery—from Laura’s continuing career and their ongoing life together—to the duo’s discovery of the Fountain of Youth and the possibility of welcoming a child into their life.

The after-credits scene broadens the mythos: Carmilla is approached by the spirit of her sister Mattie [Sophia Walker], who warns that the anglerfish entity from Silas was female and has laid eggs. The warning leaves Carmilla ready for the next chapter, signaling that the bond between Laura and Carmilla endures and that new trials—and new discoveries—await them.

Together, Laura Hollis and Carmilla Karnstein move forward with courage, tenderness, and a shared sense of destiny. Their world remains a blend of danger and wonder, where love persists even when worlds overlap, and where the line between the living and the supernatural continues to blur in ways that keep them—and the audience—watching.
