After a mechanical failure aboard the spaceship Odyssey, Captain Lee Norsythe, Louie Lawless, is forced to crash land on a planet whose atmosphere and conditions resemble Earth, yet it sits light-years away from home. As the ship sinks into the lake it crashed into, communications officer Cindy, Mary Appleseth, realizes she forgot the radio and, with Chuck, Chuck Pennington, nearby, makes a desperate bid to retrieve it. En route, Cindy is attacked and killed by an unidentified aquatic creature, prompting Chuck to return to shore without the radio and leaving the survivors to face an unknown fate together.
Realizing they are stranded, the eight remaining crew members commit to survival and begin to explore the planet that now marks their new reality. Derna Lee, Derna Wylde, slips in a swamp, dropping the laser gun that Mike, Max Thayer, had lent her into the water and rendering it unusable. Their trek leads them to a Brontosaurus, a sign that the planet has followed a path of evolution similar to Earth’s, though it appears millions of years younger. Later, Charlotte, Charlotte Speer, identifies a crucial danger: the plant life, especially the berries, proves poisonous. After another dinosaur encounter, Lee decides that the best option is to climb to a higher plateau, hoping the elevated terrain will keep the larger predators at bay.
During the ascent, Nyla, Pamela Bottaro, slips and loses the entire supply of food rations, a blow that Lee refuses to retrieve, clinging to the belief that they must press forward. Higher up, a cave becomes a focal point when Harvey Baylor, Harvey Shain, discovers a nest full of eggs. After stealing one, he is attacked and killed by a Centrosaurus, a stark reminder of the planet’s perilous balance and the cost of greed. In the wake of Harvey’s death, Lee’s leadership is tested; he halts the expedition and chooses to settle in a defensible area around the cave, much to Jim’s concern.
Jim, James Whitworth, urges a more radical approach, arguing that they may be trapped forever on this world and proposing a complete societal reboot. Lee, however, remains convinced that they can endure and wait for rescue, and the group begins constructing a defensive stockade to protect themselves from further encounters with the planet’s formidable fauna. Their stance is tested when a colossal Tyrannosaurus arrives, killing Derna and tearing through the makeshift defenses to endanger them all.
The crew ultimately agrees with Jim that survival hinges on stopping the predator, and they stage a bold plan. Lee’s first attempt to poison the dinosaur from the berries of a dead Polacanthus, and leave it outside the Tyrannosaurus’ lair, backfires when the beast strikes from behind, claiming Mike’s life. Jim counters with a more calculated strategy: set up large wooden stakes smeared with poison and lure the predator into them for a fatal impalement. After some initial troubles, the plan succeeds, and the Tyrannosaurus is defeated.
Years pass, and the survivors establish an agricultural settlement, turning their precarious enclave into a self-sustaining community. Chuck and Charlotte welcome a son named Mikey, a symbol of continuity and hope in an uncertain horizon. Yet even as they carve out a life on this world, Charlotte quietly wonders whether they will ever be rescued, a sentiment Nyla counters with a sobering truth: survival has shifted their priorities, and rescue no longer feels essential to their daily existence. In the quiet moments, the group threads together a fragile, evolving civilization, where old fears mingle with new routines, and the memory of their lost crewmates lingers as a reminder of how far they’ve come—and how much further they might still go.
