During Italy's Great War, Geppetto experiences the tragic loss of his son Carlo, who is killed in an aerial bombardment. This devastating moment marks a profound turning point in Geppetto's life, leaving him heartbroken and grieving.

In memory of Carlo, Geppetto plants a pine cone chosen by his son before his death. This act signifies his enduring love and sorrow, and over two decades, he mourns his loss by nurturing the tree that grows from the cone.

In a moment of grief, Geppetto cuts down the pine tree to carve a puppet resembling his late son. After passing out before completion, a Blue Wood Sprite breathes life into the unfinished puppet, naming him Pinocchio.

Geppetto awakens to find his puppet, Pinocchio, animated and filled with curiosity. Chaos erupts in Geppetto's cabin as he struggles to understand the existence of his new son, leading to a mix of wonder and concern.

After a visit from Podesta and a priest, Geppetto is pressured to send Pinocchio to school, believing education will help him. However, Pinocchio's rebellious nature complicates this new arrangement right from the start.

Pinocchio meets Count Volpe, a struggling showman, who sees the potential for profit in the wooden boy. Volpe manipulates Pinocchio into joining his circus by promising fame and fortune, drawing him away from Geppetto.

Desperate to find his puppet, Geppetto follows Sebastian to the circus, leading to a chaotic confrontation with Count Volpe. This encounter ends in disaster when Pinocchio is accidentally thrown into the street.

After being struck by a vehicle, Pinocchio enters the afterlife where he meets Death. Here, he learns about his immortal condition and the stakes of his existence, leaving him to ponder the true value of life.

Pinocchio returns to life and continues his tumultuous journey with Count Volpe's circus while trying to avoid the draft ordered by Podesta. He discovers the harsh realities of his new existence while longing for freedom.

In a dramatic turn of events, Geppetto and Sebastian attempt to rescue Pinocchio but are swallowed by a massive sea monster. This perilous situation brings them face-to-face with their greatest fears and challenges.

Pinocchio realizes he has been deceived by Count Volpe, who has exploited him for entertainment. To break free and save his friends, he retaliates during a performance for Mussolini, igniting chaos.

In a climactic battle, Pinocchio sacrifices himself to save Geppetto from danger. This act of bravery highlights his growth and deepens the bond between father and son, showcasing the essence of true heroism.

After his sacrifice, Pinocchio meets Death once more and requests to return to save Geppetto. Despite the risk of losing his immortality, this selfless wish illustrates his transformation into a loving son.

Pinocchio is resurrected through Sebastian's heartfelt desire, successfully reuniting with Geppetto. Together, they begin to envision a new life, filled with hope and a promise of adventure ahead.

During the credits, Sebastian finds himself entertaining the Black Rabbits in the afterlife. His performance serves as a poignant reminder of hope and the continuity of life beyond death.
