Peacemaker

An alien spacecraft streaks into Earth's atmosphere and crashes into the Pacific Ocean off the coast near Los Angeles. A couple on a nearby beach witnesses the event and the woman is left startled when a strange man appears and then vanishes as soon as her partner returns. This encounter sets the stage for the ensuing pursuit and mystery.

The survivor Lance Edwards travels into the city and attempts to steal a police cruiser and a shotgun. A police officer tries to arrest him, but Townsend's strength knocks the officer into the windshield while a second officer fires his weapon. Townsend escapes amid a high-tension pursuit, leaping fences and smashing through doors.

He bursts into an apartment where several people are present and attacks them with brutal force as they defend themselves with knives. A woman is thrown through a door and a man is sent through the wall while police outside watch the chaos. The officers fire, Townsend collapses, but then rises again, leaving them stunned and convinced he is still alive.

Townsend's body is brought to the medical examiner, but during the autopsy the bullet holes glow and his skin regenerates, allowing him to rise from the table. He abducts the medical examiner Dori Caisson and escapes with her, overpowering a guard on the way out. A pursuing Yates manages to fire, but Townsend drives away, throwing him over the edge of a building.

On the run with Dori, Townsend declares that he is from another world and a Peacemaker. He explains that he needs her to retrieve his clothing so the control card inside can power his crashed ship. Dori tests his claims while he uses television programs to observe human life and behavior.

A man named Yates is briefly in custody at the library and then breaks off his chained hand to escape. He tracks Dori to her address and becomes Townsend's primary pursuer. A tense chase unfolds as the two aliens collide with the police and the city streets.

Dori and Townsend head toward her home while police close in on their trail. Yates reaches Dori's residence, attacks, and steals a pickup truck to pursue Townsend. A destructive pursuit through roadblocks ends with the truck exploding in flames.

The fugitives hole up in a motel as a SWAT team closes in and Ramos oversees the case. Townsend and Dori evade capture by slipping through walls into adjacent rooms and stealing a patron’s car. The standoff heightens the danger as the police close in.

Inside a hotel, Townsend and Dori confront Yates as he threatens them with a gun. Townsend fights back and shoots Yates in the head, causing him to fall onto power lines and explode and decompose within seconds. Ramos arrives later, questioning Dori about Townsend and his motives.

Back at the Medical Examiner's vault, Dori opens the storage vault to see Townsend alive again and the control card in his possession. He hints at another departure toward his ship while Dori declares Surf's Up, hinting at the emotional stakes of their unlikely alliance. The moment hints at a renewed threat and a possible departure for Townsend.

On the beach, Dori asks why Townsend must keep trying, and he answers that he is a Peacemaker. They exchange a quiet, somber joke about humor that neither fully understands. The final mood hints at a possible still-open mission for Townsend.

Townsend holds the control card and the path to the ship looms ahead. Dori clings to the hope of his return while acknowledging the cost of their unlikely bond. The film closes with a sense that the Peacemaker mission may call him back into space.
