During Elsa’s spellbinding song Let It Go, Olaf the snowman springs to life. Before he can react, Elsa sheds her cloak, which billows and knocks him down the mountainside until he crashes into a tree. Not knowing who he is or why he exists, Olaf resolves to discover an identity for himself.
He stumbles upon Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post and Sauna, where the jovial shopkeeper Oaken keeps a bustling shop and winter charm fills the air. Olaf asks for a nose—perhaps a carrot—for his face, but Oaken explains that he sold the last batch and offers a variety of other objects to try. One option is an old-fashioned View-Master featuring images of Summer, which captivates Olaf, who then settles on a sausage for his nose. In the meantime, Anna exits the post, not noticing Olaf and carrying a bag of carrots; the front door closes with a thud, briefly pinning him.
As Olaf happily leaves with his new nose, a pack of wolves suddenly appears and begins to chase him across the snowy tundra. Anna and Kristoff are heard arguing about love from nearby, their banter providing a humorous counterpoint to the chase. Olaf slips by unseen, and the wolves redirect their attention to them as they leap a deep gorge, abandoning their sleigh. Olaf reaches the bottom and spots a carrot dropped in the commotion, only to have it crushed beneath the passing sleigh.
Olaf’s sausage nose breaks, which saddens him. He offers the broken piece to a whimpering wolf, believing that the creature needs it more than he does. The wolf licks the makeshift nose and then trots away, leaving Olaf with a warm, fuzzy feeling he mistakes for a hug. The moment triggers a memory of Anna and Elsa’s childhood games, reinforcing his sense of identity and belonging.
I’m Olaf and I like warm hugs.
Later, during the credits, Olaf is seen reuniting with Anna, Kristoff, and Sven, who will eventually help him reclaim a carrot nose and continue their cozy, snow-filled adventures together.
