OMG: Oh My God!

A low-frequency earthquake hits Mumbai and Kanji Lalji Mehta's shop is destroyed; it's the only shop in Chor Bazaar to collapse. His family and friends blame his atheism for inviting divine punishment, turning him into a pariah. The disaster upends his life and financial security.

At the insurance office, Kanji and his neighbor learn that disaster claims do not cover damages classified as 'Act of God'. They realize the policy offers him no relief. This pushes Kanji toward an unprecedented step: suing God.

Unable to find a lawyer to sue God, Kanji meets Hanif Qureshi, a disabled, poor Muslim attorney who agrees to take the case. Qureshi's unlikely support enables Kanji to pursue the lawsuit. The odds begin to tilt in his favor.

Letters summon the insurance company and various religious leaders—Siddheshwar Maharaj, Gopi Maiyya, and Leeladhar Swamy's group—to court as representatives of God. The case broadens beyond a single insurer toward the concept of divine accountability. The courtroom becomes a stage for a bizarre public dispute.

In the preliminary hearing, Sardesai asks the jury to dismiss the case. Kanji argues that religious groups claim to represent God and should be answerable for their actions. The jury sides with Kanji, and the case proceeds.

As the case draws attention, Kanji faces threats from armed fundamentalists, and his mortgage lender moves to foreclose his house while his wife leaves. Krishna Vasudev Yadav intervenes, buying the house from the bank but letting Kanji stay with him. Krishna's appearance signals a surreal turn in the affair.

Kanji's interview on television shifts public opinion in his favor. Meanwhile, hundreds of insured people join the lawsuit as their claims were denied under 'Act of God'. The case becomes a nationwide talking point.

Catholic priests and Muslim clerics are added as defendants, but Sardesai contends Kanji has no documents proving the disaster was an act of God. The judge requires a solid, written proof to anchor the claim.

Krishna directs Kanji to study the Bhagavad Gita, the Quran, and the Bible to find guidance. He spends a month immersed in holy books and discovers a passage about God's will allowing creation and destruction. The philosophical turnaround strengthens his case.

After the breakthrough, Kanji collapses and is rushed to the hospital. Doctors declare him paralyzed and announce his death to the media, a devastating setback for his cause. The courtroom waits as his life hangs in the balance.

Kanji awakens to Krishna, who reveals that he saved him and explains his God-like role. Krishna explains that he created the world and opposes fraudulent god-men, and that he manipulated events to support Kanji’s lawsuit. The revelation reframes faith as something inside people, not in temples.

The verdict in Kanji's favor is announced; profiteering temple leaders are exposed. Kanji storms a funeral procession, destroys his statue, and urges people to seek God within themselves rather than in idols or institutions. He also discards the embroidered key-chain as a symbolic end to idol worship; Krishna disappears, leaving Kanji with a new mission.
