As Betty and her mysterious companion, Driver, make their way across the vast landscapes of the country, their serene expedition is violently interrupted by a ruthless gang, spearheaded by the cunning Hoag. Among his brazen crew are his brother Ethan, apprentice Denny, alluring Tamara, and the pitiless Flynn. The seemingly innocuous vehicle belonging to the Driver becomes a beacon for calamity as Flynn, driven by unquenchable greed, kidnaps the couple, naively believing them to be affluent targets.
In a desperate bid to redeem himself following a disastrous heist, Flynn takes Betty and the Driver hostage, compelling Ethan to retrieve their monetary secrets through intimidation. Betty’s harrowing attempt to escape culminates in an unthinkable act; in a moment of desperation, she slashes her own throat with a knife pressed against her neck by Ethan, igniting the Driver’s fury as he breaks free from his restraints to enact brutal vengeance on Ethan.
Concurrently, Flynn makes a chilling discovery in the trunk of their car—an innocent young woman whose presence unveils a tragic past marked by murder and chaos. Amber, fascinated by true crime, recognizes the captive as Emma Ward, a wealthy heiress who suffered alongside her fourteen friends at a horrific gathering. Denny and Tamara, while trying to reach Ethan, inadvertently stumble upon the aftermath of Betty’s suicide and the Driver’s escape, inadvertently bringing the Driver to their hideout concealed within the body of his former victim.
The Driver commences a ruthless campaign against his captors, starting with Hoag, whom he subjects to a gruesome display of violence before ultimately dispatching him in a shocking manner. As the gang’s van descends into chaos, Denny, though grievously wounded, heroically attempts to revive their trustworthy Jeep. Tragically, the Driver cruelly propels his battered body into the engine, rendering him unrecognizable. In a desperate flight from the Driver, Amber’s terror mounts as she faces an appalling fate on the roadside, meeting an untimely end beneath the gang’s vehicle due to Flynn’s blunders.
As the trio—Flynn, Tamara, and Emma—arrives at a motel to hide from the unfolding chaos, they unknowingly set off a series of events with lasting consequences. When Flynn utilizes the Driver’s credit card to register for a room, it sends immediate red flags to the motel owner, Harris, prompting him to alert law enforcement. Unbeknownst to them, the Driver has entered the motel under a different identity and is hot on their trail. Tensions escalate as the Driver confronts Tamara in the shower, with Flynn intervening just in time to save her life—but at the steep cost of her own.
In the ensuing pandemonium, Emma makes a frantic attempt to break free, only to be ensnared by Flynn’s quick actions. The confrontation between her and the Driver grows tense, as he grapples with the aftermath of his violent encounters. Just when it appears Flynn has seized the upper hand, Emma’s cunning subterfuge disrupts his plans, leaving her once more under the control of her tormentor.
In an astonishing climax, the Driver emerges triumphant, claiming Flynn’s life with a shotgun blast that echoes throughout the chaos. His wrath extends to Harris as well, leaving a path of destruction in his wake. The following day brings a chilling transformation as the Driver adopts the guise of a doctor, concluding his grim task in Denny’s hospital bed. As he exits, his gaze meets Emma’s, now recovering from her harrowing experience, and in a fleeting moment, he connects with her before vanishing into the shadows once again, leaving behind a chilling sense of fascination.
