Ao Guang, the Dragon King of the East Sea, launches a devastating assault on Chentang Pass because he genuinely believes his son Ao Bing has been killed by the heavenly lightning strike. Driven by grief and rage, he releases the imprisoned monsters beneath his palace and unleashes the other three Dragon Kings to destroy the town as retaliation, not knowing that Ao Bing's soul was actually saved and being regenerated.

Earlier, the lightning strike simultaneously struck both Ne Zha and Ao Bing, making it appear that both had perished.

After their physical forms are destroyed by heavenly lightning, Master Taiyi Zhenren uses the Seven-colored Sacred Lotus to regenerate their bodies, but the forms remain fragile and unstable. To restore Ao Bing properly, Ao Guang proposes a ceasefire where Ne Zha and Ao Bing must share Ne Zha's body for seven days while completing three trials set by Immortal Wuliang to earn a potion that can fully restore the Sacred Lotus and create a permanent body for Ao Bing.

The regeneration leaves both characters with unstable, crumbling bodies that cannot sustain themselves.

Ne Zha takes a sleeping pill to hide his demonic identity from the heavenly Taoist sect. Since the trials are missions typically performed by the sect's demon-hunting ranks, Ne Zha cannot openly participate as a demon. By falling asleep, he allows Ao Bing to take control of their shared body to complete the trials while Ne Zha's true nature remains concealed.

The trials are part of the heavenly sect's demon-hunting operations, making Ne Zha's participation dangerous if his identity were revealed.

Shen Gongbao betrays the heavenly sect after discovering that Wuliang orchestrated the attack on the Shen family village, which Ne Zha was manipulated into carrying out. When his younger brother Shen Xiaobao dies trying to defend their father during Ne Zha's second trial, Shen Gongbao realizes the sect has been manipulating everyone. He ultimately stands against the three Dragon Kings and Wuliang to protect Chentang Pass and the townspeople.

Shen Xiaobao reveals the troubling events of their village being attacked by the sect, which includes Ne Zha's shocking confrontation with their father.

Wuliang, the immortal who sets the three trials, is revealed to have orchestrated the attack on Chentang Pass himself. He manipulated Ne Zha into attacking the Shen family village, then convinced the three Dragon Kings to betray Ao Guang and massacre the townsfolk. Wuliang's goal was to use Ao Guang's attack as a pretext to eliminate all the dragons and assert the heavenly sect's supremacy, framing it as eliminating a threat while actually committing mass murder.

Ne Zha's rage at the massacre leads him to seek vengeance by trapping dragons in the cauldron, but the revelation comes later that Wuliang orchestrated everything.

The three Dragon Kings of the Four Seas betray Ao Guang by siding with Wuliang during the massacre of Chentang Pass. They work together with Wuliang to initiate the massacre of townsfolk, using Ao Guang's attack as a false justification. This betrayal allows Wuliang to eliminate the dragons while appearing to act in defense of humanity.

Ao Guang assigns these three Dragon Kings to Chentang Pass under Shen Gongbao's oversight, not knowing they would turn against him.

Ne Zha's mother dies during the climactic battle when Wuliang manages to imprison Ne Zha and his companions in the cauldron. In this heart-wrenching moment, Ne Zha cradles his dying mother as she breathes her last. Her death serves as the catalyst that unleashes Ne Zha's full fury, enabling him to absorb the cauldron's intense samadhi fire and transform.

Earlier, Ne Zha's parents arrive at the scene to reveal the truth behind the chaos, setting up this tragic loss.

Ne Zha absorbs the cauldron's intense samadhi fire because he is driven to extreme fury by watching his mother die in his arms. This overwhelming emotion, combined with his demonic nature and determination to defeat Wuliang, allows him to harness the fire that would normally destroy anyone. The absorption solidifies his brand-new form and grants him the power to break free from the cauldron alongside the dragons and captives.

Ne Zha's rage at the devastation of Chentang Pass and the manipulation by Wuliang has been building throughout the story.

After the battle and the retreat of the heavenly forces, Ao Bing chooses to remain on land rather than accompany his father Ao Guang and the surviving dragons into seclusion beneath the waves. His reason is to expose Wuliang's treachery and the conspiracy behind the massacre, staying behind to reveal the truth about what the heavenly sect has done.

Earlier, Ao Bing had proven himself willing to stand guard at Chentang Pass and fight for the humans despite being a dragon.

In the post-credits scene, Wuliang visits the secret prison where Shen Gongbao and their father are held captive, attempting to recruit them. However, Wuliang's hypnotic control over the prison guard causes the guard to fall asleep, trapping Shen Gongbao and his father in the prison for a decade. This sets up future conflict as Ne Zha's elder immortal brothers are summoned to confront Wuliang.

Shen Gongbao made a final stand to protect the town, buying time for Ne Zha's parents to escape, which led to his capture.

After Ao Bing's physical form is restored, Ne Zha abandons his allies to join Wuliang's forces because he is consumed by vengeance for the devastation wrought upon Chentang Pass. Believing the dragons are responsible for the massacre, Ne Zha plots with Wuliang to trap the dragons in the sect's cauldron, where they will be transformed into elixirs as retribution for their attack.

Ne Zha's fury at the Chentang Pass massacre drives him to complete the third trial alone without Ao Bing's assistance.

The three trials set by Immortal Wuliang are missions typically executed by the heavenly Taoist sect's demon-hunting ranks. The first two trials involve battling a marauding marmot bandit clan and confronting a master who trains demons. The third trial, which Ne Zha completes alone in a fury, involves another challenging mission that earns him passage to immortality and the coveted potion needed to restore Ao Bing's body and the Sacred Lotus.

The trials are presented as the only way to obtain the restoration potion, with a seven-day deadline adding urgency.
