A farmer from eastern Uttar Pradesh lives in a village with his two nephews Omkar and Chandan Sachin Pilgaonkar. He falls ill and is treated by a Vaidya from across the river. When the farmer feels better, he asks about the Vaidya’s fees. The Vaidya, a father of two daughters, asks for the farmer’s elder nephew to marry his elder daughter Roopa Mitali. The farmer agrees. Omkar has a younger brother Chandan, and Roopa has a younger sister Gunja Sadhana Singh.

Roopa’s arrival brings joy to Omkar’s home, and Gunja begins to fit into the family life as Roopa’s sister. Roopa soon becomes pregnant and gives birth to a baby boy, enriching the house with new responsibilities and warmth. With no other daughter in the household, Roopa asks Omkar to call Gunja to help with household chores, and Chandan travels to Roopa’s village to bring Gunja home.

On the journey back, the two sing cheerful songs and gradually form a friendship. A budding affection develops between Gunja and Chandan, and Gunja bonds with everyone in the family, taking on many duties around the house. As time passes, Chandan and Gunja find themselves falling in love, even as Gunja becomes deeply part of the family’s day-to-day life.

After several months, Gunja returns home with a heavy heart. Chandan keeps finding excuses to visit her, and Gunja asks him to come to her as her groom. While visiting her parents again a few months later, Roopa learns about their love and promises to discuss it with the whole family. Tragically, Roopa dies in an accident before she can speak to everyone, leaving Omkar to face life without her.

Time moves on and Omkar’s world grows darker in Roopa’s absence. To restore happiness and provide a mother for his child, his uncle and Roopa’s father suggest marrying Gunja to Omkar. Chandan, unable to reveal his own love for Gunja, remains quiet while these discussions unfold. Gunja initially assumes her father has arranged a marriage with Chandan and feels hopeful, but on the wedding day she sees Omkar dressed as the groom. She believes Chandan has deceived her to protect his brother, and she agrees to marry Omkar to preserve her father’s reputation.

Chandan privately explains that he sacrificed his own love for his brother’s sake, hoping Gunja will understand and support him. Hearing this, Omkar arrives, disapproves of the arrangement, and informs the families of the truth about their love. In the end, Gunja and Chandan marry with the blessing of their families, bringing a renewed sense of harmony to the household.
