Nacho Libre

Ignacio is born to a Scandinavian Lutheran missionary and a Mexican deacon, whose conflicting beliefs lead to their unexpected marriage. After both parents pass away when he is still a child, Ignacio is raised in a monastery, where he grows up with minimal resources and support.

As Ignacio matures, he takes on the role of cook at the monastery, while also caring for the orphans residing there. Despite his dedication, his culinary skills are lacking due to the poor quality of ingredients that he is able to obtain.

One evening, Ignacio suffers a setback when he is robbed of the orphans' tortilla chips in a dark alley. This incident reignites his determination to improve the circumstances of the orphans and gain the respect of his peers.

Ignacio develops feelings for Sister Encarnacion, the new tutor at the monastery. He finds himself torn between his emotions and the strict rules of the monastery regarding relationships.

Adopting the name 'Nacho,' Ignacio begins his journey into the world of Lucha Libre wrestling. He teams up with the thief who stole his chips, Steven, who takes on the nickname 'Esqueleto' (Skeleton) as they pursue their new venture.

Nacho and Esqueleto participate in their first Lucha Libre match, but they face defeat. However, Ignacio soon learns that every wrestler earns a share of revenue, inspiring him to continue competing in order to earn money for better food.

With the earnings from their matches, Ignacio is able to provide the orphans with better meals, unbeknownst to them about his secret life. A child named Chancho discovers the truth but vows to keep it a secret.

Nacho seeks the advice of a mystical figure known as 'Emperor,' who provides him with unconventional training wisdom. Despite following the advice and overcoming challenges, he still suffers defeats in the ring.

Hoping for guidance, Nacho approaches his idol, the celebrated luchador Ramses, only to be let down when Ramses treats him poorly. This disillusionment pushes Ignacio to dig deeper into his own capabilities.

During a prayer, Ignacio's robe unexpectedly ignites, exposing his secret as Nacho to everyone. Despite the embarrassment, he bravely announces his goal of competing in the 'Battle-Jam' tournament to help the orphans.

Nacho and Esqueleto engage in a series of matches against other wrestlers, vying for the opportunity to compete against Ramses. Their determination is fueled by a desire to support the orphans as they climb the ranks.

In a surprising turn of events, the formidable wrestler Silencio wins the championship, causing Ignacio to step back. However, he is later informed that Silencio is injured, which presents Ignacio with a second chance in the ring.

With Steven's support and encouragement from Sister Encarnacion, Ignacio prepares for his comeback match against Ramses. He conveys his heartfelt feelings for Encarnacion through a message sent via Steven, reinforcing his determination.

In the crucial championship match, Ignacio faces several challenges, including Ramses' dishonorable tactics. Despite these obstacles, the overwhelming support of the crowd and the presence of the orphans rally Ignacio to victory.

After claiming the title and prize money, Ignacio dedicates his earnings to buying a bus for the children's educational trips. The film concludes with Ignacio, Steven, and Sister Encarnacion taking the orphans on an adventure, symbolizing a hopeful new chapter.
