Madison Penrose, a wealthy and quite spoiled high school student, is counting down the days until her highly anticipated Sweet 16 celebration. She chooses the forgotten but once-popular Roller Dome, a roller skating rink with a dark and violent past, as the venue for her party. Despite her father’s objections—who warns her about the rink’s gruesome history—Madison stubbornly insists on hosting her event there.

The rink’s history is chilling: a flashback reveals Charlie Rotter, played by Chris Zylka, who was once the owner of the Roller Dome, harboring a lethal temper and a disturbing past. Charlie murdered two teenagers after they insulted him and dismembered four others—an infamy that ended with his trial when a young girl named Skye, his daughter, called the police, ultimately leading to his arrest. A news report at the time suggested that Charlie was believed to have died in a bus accident while on his way to prison, but that is only partially true as the story unfolds.

Fast-forward ten years, and Skye McKnight has grown into a quiet, artistic high school student, living under the care of her aunt Sarah. As Charlie’s daughter, Skye is burdened with a tragic reputation that makes her the target of ridicule among her classmates, especially Madison. The story explores the bitter interactions that follow, starting with Skye unexpectedly crossing paths with Madison’s ex-boyfriend, Chad McKnight Brigg Jenner, and his best friend Kevin Donaldson. An incident occurs where Kevin insults Skye, and she responds with a quick-witted joke about Kevin’s sexuality, leading to embarrassment for Kevin. Skye and Brigg quickly develop a flirtatious rapport, and their growing connection is witnessed by Olivia Wade, a close friend of Madison, who eagerly reports it to Madison and their friend Chloe Anderson.

The tension escalates when Madison, determined to punish Skye for her perceived threats, sets her sights on humiliating her further. That very afternoon, Skye finds her gym locker vandalized: splattered with red paint, her clothes torn up, and a threatening note warning her to stay away from Brigg. The malicious act is confirmed to Skye by Lilly McFadden, an acquaintance of Madison’s, who admits she despises Madison herself and encourages Skye to seek revenge by hooking up with Brigg—though Skye refuses to stoop to that level. As she prepares to leave the locker room, Madison and her friends confront Skye, taunting her and claiming that Brigg isn’t interested in her at all.

Despite these conflicts, Brigg later approaches Skye to offer a ride home after school. During their car ride, he surprising her by asking her out on a date, which Skye happily accepts. Meanwhile, Madison, eager to provoke jealousy, deliberately hands Brigg an invitation to her Sweet 16 at the party, which irks Skye. Later at Skye’s house, while hanging out with her best friend Derek McNamara, she is approached with a plan to crash Madison’s party at the Roller Dome. Skye declines at first, but after Brigg cancels their date, promising to spend more time with her, Skye decides to go with Derek, joining Lilly in sneaking into the eerily familiar and darkly ominous roller rink.

Once inside, the party takes a sinister turn. The party planner, mistakenly believed to be a harmless adult, makes inappropriate advances toward Madison, who dismisses him. Moments later, however, he is gruesomely attacked with a spear by Charlie, who survived the bus accident and is revealed to be lurking within the party. Derek’s attempts at flirtation go awry when he crosses paths with Lilly, leading him to meet her in the basement, where she warns him to stay away from Kevin, a troublemaker who later kicks Derek and locks him inside a storage room in retaliation.

The chaos intensifies as Kevin reports to Madison that Skye was apparently sneaking into the party. Madison confronts Skye, causing further tension, especially when Skye laughs and skates with Brigg, fueling Madison’s jealousy. As the night unfolds, Madison’s jealousy triggers reckless behavior—she kisses Brigg publicly, despite his clear discomfort—and her friend Chloe, eager for mischief, plans to prank Skye with fire extinguishers, which ends with Charlie gruesomely bludgeoning Chloe to death during the chaos.

Pandemonium erupts as Charlie systematically hunts down the party guests. Lilly finds Madison’s birthday present—a shiny silver BMW—and inscribes a quick message on it, unaware that Charlie is hiding inside the car. The killer’s reign of terror continues as Charlie brutally slashes Lilly’s throat after a failed attempt to run her over. Madison’s father, delivering a birthday speech, is interrupted when Olivia, another friend, stumbles upon Chloe’s mutilated body. Olivia herself becomes the next victim—beheaded with an axe—leaving the guests frenzied and terrified.

Madison, blaming Skye for spoiling her party, escalates her cruelty, leading to a confrontation where Charlie appears, trapping everyone inside the building. The girls try to escape through the back, but are blocked by the mutilated body of the party planner. A tense showdown ensues at the balcony edge, where Brigg fights Charlie with the help of Derek’s distraction using the DJ booth’s lights, giving Skye and Madison a chance to flee. Brigg is thrown off the balcony, presumed dead, and Charlie leaps after him.

As the final confrontation builds, Skye, desperately trying to save her friends, faces her father—who reveals himself as Charlie, her childhood nightmare. They both end up tied to tables in the basement. Skye confronts Charlie, revealing that she had begged her father to spare Madison, who is painted as a cruel bully. But Charlie sees Madison as nothing more than a monster, and Skye finally finds the courage to fight back. When Charlie unties Skye and hands her a knife, Madison pleads for her life, begging Skye to kill her. Instead, Skye hesitates, but then stabs Charlie in the leg, giving herself a window to run away. Madison, now ungrateful and ruthless, tries to escape but is caught by Charlie, who traps her.

Skye rescues herself and locks Madison inside with her father, wishing her a bitter “happy birthday”, then climbs upstairs alone, leaving chaos behind. The police arrive shortly after and discover Madison dead and Charlie missing. Skye, shaken, drives off in Madison’s stolen car, leaving the horror behind.

In the aftermath, Brigg awakens in the hospital, only to be suddenly attacked in his nightmare by Skye—who proceeds to stab him repeatedly. However, he wakes up to find himself safe, with a nurse calming him. He asks about Skye, but she has vanished. To his surprise, he finds a self-portrait of Skye left on a desk, hinting that she had visited him at some point during his unconscious state—leaving her fate uncertain and adding an eerie twist to the story.
