The Doyle family relocates to the faded Fowler Mortuary hoping for a fresh start. They confront the building's dilapidated condition and the uneasy mood of the town. The move marks the beginning of a disturbing chain of events tied to the mortuary.

Jonathan goes to the local diner and meets Cal, Sara, and Tina. Liz, Grady, and Rita share the legend of Bobby Fowler, an abused boy who supposedly haunts the mortuary. The rumor draws Jonathan into the town's eerie history.

Cal, Sara, and Tina vandalize the cemetery and enter a crypt. Inside, they are attacked by Bobby Fowler, hinting at the danger lurking beneath the mortuary. The encounter sows fear and foreshadows the infection that will spread.

The next day, Grady gives Jonathan and his circle drugs, complicating their judgment. Sheriff Howell arrives to welcome Leslie to town and begins the investigation into the "graveyard babies." He probes the crypts, where Bobby Fowler infects him.

At the diner, Cal arrives disheveled and erupts in a rage, while Sara vomits black ooze. Rita attempts to calm her but becomes infected in the process. The ominous spread of the infection begins to touch more lives.

In the mortuary, Leslie performs her first embalming but corrupts the fluids, and a body rises to infect her. The sickness begins to spread through the mortuary workers, signaling a larger outbreak.

Jonathan, Jamie, Liz, and Grady return home to find Leslie, now infected, preparing a strange ooze soup. A black fungus grows on the walls as salt added to the soup triggers Leslie's rage. Liz and Grady manage to escape the chaos.

The group flees to the crypts, chased by an infected assailant. They discover that Bobby Fowler inhabits the crypts beneath the cemetery and manage to rescue Tina, who is alive but wounded. This reveals that Bobby is operating from beneath the town, controlling the infestation.

The group questions Tina and cuts her hand to see if her blood has turned into the black ooze. The test confirms the infection can be traced through blood and informs their strategy. They begin to sense a potential weakness in the creature’s defenses.

Sheriff Howell assaults the house with a shotgun, escalating the danger. Tina cleans the wound in the kitchen but is infected by contaminated water, and Grady pours salt on her, burning her. The group realizes salt can be used as a weapon against the infected.

The threat escalates as Jamie is captured by Bobby and dragged toward his subterranean lair. The group plans a rescue while confronting the reality that Bobby’s tunnel network under the cemetery extends their reach. The situation tightens as the clock ticks toward a final confrontation.

In the tunnel climax, a hand bursts through Grady’s chest as he dies, signaling the lethal danger below. Cal is killed by Sheriff Howell, and the remaining infected are burned with salt as Bobby is sucked into a salt-filled well. Jonathan, Liz, and Jamie escape from the house to safety outside.

The survivors mourn Leslie and Grady, and Jonathan is briefly pulled underground by a reanimated Leslie who grabs Jamie. Liz's fate remains unknown as the group exits the wrecked home, wary of the quiet menace that still lurks beneath the cemetery. The town is left with unanswered questions about Bobby Fowler and the dark infection.
