Engels Ramasamy, RJ Balaji, a Nagercoil-based news anchor, lives with his mother, his paternal grandfather, and three sisters. He and his family have faced years of hardship: many girls have rejected his marriage proposals because they see how poor they are, and Engels himself was left to fend for his loved ones after his father walked out on them. Despite the odds, the family keeps a hopeful spirit, clinging to faith and small dreams of a better future.

Their plans to visit the Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati for the fourth time are thwarted when the youngest sister gets her first period, prompting a cultural shift in the household’s thinking. Realizing that luck might lie closer to home, they decide to seek help from their family deity at the temple of Mookuthi Amman Nayanthara. The temple sits in a rugged, mist-draped hill area known as Vellimalai, about 13.9 kilometers from Nagercoil. When they arrive, they find the shrine dilapidated and neglected, yet a sense of possibility lingers in the air. The family rolls up their sleeves, cleans, and restores the temple as night falls, following ancient customs and communal rituals.

That night, a miraculous moment unfolds: Mookuthi Amman appears in human form right there at the temple, and Engels is the only one who can see her. He realizes he is a god-chosen child, destined for something greater than a simple local reporter’s life. The goddess offers to improve Engels’s family fortunes, but there is a condition: Engels must help make her temple famous and popular. He agrees, drawn by the promise of real change for his kin, and in a spirit of courage and curiosity, he begins to chart a plan with Amman. Together, they set out to turn his family’s fortunes around, and the journey back to Nagercoil by bus marks the beginning of a broader mission to spread faith and hope rather than fear.

Their path soon collides with a man who presents himself as a benevolent godman: Bhagavathi Baba Ajay Ghosh. Baba announces grand, sweeping plans to build a town named Panchavanam, a project that would wipe out 148 villages around the temple in Vellimalai. Engels is incensed because he has spent years trying to expose Baba’s scams and the corruption hidden behind the pious facade. The goddess, sensing Engels’s integrity and the danger Baba poses to the faithful, decides to lend a hand in dismantling the illusion of Baba’s power. Engels’s family gradually becomes part of the plan to unmask the deception, and Amman steps into the lives of Engels’s relatives, revealing herself to them as an ever-present guide.

To bring Baba’s misdeeds to light, Engels’s mother and sisters slip into Baba’s circle, posing as devoted followers while secretly filming his behavior—an undercover effort designed to capture damning evidence without drawing attention. Engels lands a role at Star Vijay and hosts a daily show with Baba, a platform that lets him address the audience directly and gently lay bare the incongruities and manipulations behind Baba’s public persona. As the show unfolds, Engels begins to uncover a cascade of troubling truths about Baba, exposing the self-styled protector of faith as someone who uses fear and spectacle to control people’s lives.

Baba responds with defiance, challenging Engels at the groundbreaking ceremony of Panchavanam by proposing three questions that could decide the fate of the project. If Engels can answer them, the plan goes forward; if not, Panchavanam remains a pipe dream. The tension rises as the film’s cameras roll and the stakes escalate. After a tense shoot, Baba discovers that Engels’s family has been quietly working to thwart him, and the pressure mounts. In a desperate bid to escape Baba’s clutches, Engels urges his family to flee, but their car runs out of fuel, and Baba’s henchmen close in.

In a powerful moment, Mookuthi Amman appears in human form once more to confront Baba directly, making a sweeping statement about faith: there is no need for men like Baba to “protect” God; true faith comes from devotion, not fear. With those words, she dissipates, leaving Baba exposed and branded as a fraud in the eyes of the community.

In the aftermath, Baba becomes a public antagonist, shunned by many who once believed in him. The day after, Amman encounters Engels again, and she asks for one final wish before returning to her celestial home. Engels’s response is quiet and heartfelt: he is grateful for what he has gained—the love of his family, a community that believes, and a renewed sense of purpose. Amman nods and vanishes, leaving Engels to speak to the audience directly: God will come to those who are truly chosen, and in that conviction, his faith—and that of the viewers—remains bright and hopeful.
