India and Pakistan announce Project Milaap, a prisoner-exchange program designed to de-escalate tensions between the two nations. The initiative is opposed by Raghavan Dutta's militant network, led by Captain Khan, who seek to derail any peace efforts. Brigadier Shekhar Sharma dies after taking a bullet meant for General Bakshi, and on his deathbed, he reveals Ram Prasad's family history and his wish for reconciliation.

General Bakshi assigns Ram to protect his estranged daughter, Sanjana, who studies at St. Paul's College in Darjeeling. To better watch over her, Bakshi convinces Ram to enroll as a student rather than stay as a teacher. Ram struggles to fit into college life due to his age and background, while keeping his true identity secret.

A college student helps Ram hack the college computer, revealing that Lucky is Sanjana's crush. This insight helps Ram blend in and he ends up moving in with Lucky and Madhu to stay close to the circle. He begins to map out the relationships around Sanjana, Lucky, and Chandni while pursuing his mission.

During a rooftop flag race, Lucky dangles from the edge and Ram dives to save him. The rescue earns him the trust of Lucky and Sanjana, and Ram moves in with them to maintain his undercover presence. This incident solidifies his protective role within the campus circle.

Outside a theatre, Ram intervenes when a classmate named Percy is targeted by Khan. He fights back and manages to capture Khan, bringing him under control. This incident marks a turning point as Raghavan's threat becomes more immediate for the campus.

Raghavan arrives at the university masquerading as the new physics professor after abducting Madhav Rasai and threatening him to resign. He uses this ruse to position himself against Ram and to undermine the peace efforts. Ram's true identity as an army officer is discovered by Raghavan, escalating the crisis.

Ram falls in love with his chemistry professor Chandni, while Lucky falls for Sanjana after a makeover arranged by Ram and Chandni. These relationships complicate the mission but also provide emotional stakes for the cast. The college becomes the center of personal and political tensions.

During a college prom, Ram thwarts Raghavan's gang from abducting Chandni. Afterward, Sanjana and Chandni discover Ram's true identity as an army officer, deepening the personal toll of the mission. The revelation strains Ram's relationships with the people around him.

Raghavan learns about Ram's relationship with Lucky and publicly reveals Ram's true identity to Lucky and Madhu. Ram breaks the news of Brigadier Shekhar Sharma's death and his last wish to reconcile, prompting him to leave their home and the university to let healing occur.

Raghavan seizes the entire university, demanding the cancellation of Project Milaap and the return of Khan and Ram as hostages. Ram returns to the campus to defuse the crisis and to confront Raghavan, while Madhu witnesses his renewed commitment to the mission.

Ram and Khan infiltrate the building; Ram is shot by Khan but survives. Khan initially helps free the hostages by killing guards, but Raghavan kills Khan for his betrayal. Ram and Raghavan engage in a brutal duel, which ends with Ram removing the safety pin from a grenade and killing Raghavan.

Lucky helps Ram escape the explosion aboard a helicopter; the prisoners are exchanged and Milaap succeeds. Ram and Lucky immerse Shekhar's ashes together as Madhu looks on, and the film closes with Ram and Lucky graduating as the entire university rejoices.
