Jay Moore’s wife Maggie catches him with child pornography on his phone. Although he claims to only provide the pictures and not enjoy it, she says that still counts as an accessory to the crime, and he pleads with her to not go to the cops. Jay then confides his predicament to Tommy, who advices Jay to consult with a mute hitman called Kosco. Jay tells Kosco that his wife is threatening to go to the cops, and asks him to scare her. Jay buys a lottery ticket in his wife’s name, and learns that there are two Maggie Moores in the system.
Maggie tells her neighbor Rita that she is divorcing her husband. When she gets into her car, Kosco suddenly appears from the back seat and points a gun at her. Soon thereafter, the cops get a call about a burning smell and are asked to check it out. They discover that it’s a car with a burnt skeleton on the front seat. Since an accelerant was used, Sherriff Sanders and Deputy Reddy deduce that it must be murder. The car is registered to a Maggie Moore, and Rita tells Sanders that Maggie fought a lot with her husband Jay.
Sanders sees Jay at his store and informs him about his wife’s death. Jay visits Kosco to ask why he killed his wife instead of scaring her, and Kosco replies that it was because she fought him. Jay then asks Kosco to kill the other Maggie Moore - to make it look like the first murder was a case of mistaken identity.
Rita and Sanders go on a date, and she tells him that Jay missed a part of his wife’s funeral because he was talking to another man. She remembers that this man was driving a truck for Liberty Bell foods. Sanders realizes that it must be Tommy, who reveals that Jay bought expired food and sold it to his restaurant customers illegally.
Kosco meanwhile kills the other Maggie, and grabs her insulin kit with her initials on it. Sanders gets a call about two dead Maggie Moores just one week apart. Sanders and Reddy think Jay and Tommy are off the hook, since they have alibis. The second Maggie Moore’s husband Andy tells the cops the killer was likely Duane Rich, a coworker who used to bully her. Duane is confronted by the cops, and admits he was an alcoholic who has since recovered quite a bit from his old habits - he even hosts an AA meeting at his home.
Sanders and Rita go to a Casino, and get a room for the night. Sanders is however unable to perform, because of feelings of guilt due to losing his wife. They watch the TV news, where a woman called Cassie tells reporters that she had an affair with Andy Moore, and that his wife had life insurance worth $700K. Andy is also interviewed on TV, and mentions Duane Rich. Jay watches the TV news, and gets an idea to kill Duane Rich, and make it look like a suicide, for which he once again hires Kosco. Jay tells Rita things are turning around, and that Duane Rich is probably responsible for both the murders.
Cassie provides the cops with a list of motels that she spent time with Andy. They confront Andy with new evidence about his affair with Cassie. He admits to the affair, but denies everything else. Kosco kills Duane at his residence, and when the Police arrive, Duane is hanging from the ceiling with a suicide note containing a confession to both Maggie Moore murders. But Sanders has his doubts - why kill Maggie 1 when Duane already knows Maggie 2? The cops learn that Maggie 2 was diabetic and has insulin in her system, but her insulin kit is missing. Andy also confirms that his wife never left home without her kit.
Jay’s assistant Greg sees a smashed phone belonging to Jay and mails it to the cops, who aggressively question Tommy about certain texts on the phone, and he tells them about Kosco. When Sanders and Reddy pay Kosco a visit, he speaks fluently and claims he is Don Lindowski, and that an intruder lived in his home for several days without his knowledge. While leaving, Sanders whispers to Reddy that this must be the murderer, since the insulin kit with Maggie’s initials were in his home. Kosco shoots at the cops and flees the scene by car and goes to Jay’s home and murders him. Rita hears the gunshots and tries to drive away, but Kosco gets into her car and threatens her with a gun. She correctly guesses that Kosco is going to kill her, and rams head-on into another vehicle. The airbag on the driver’s side of the car deploys saving Rita, but since there is no passenger side airbag in the car, Kosco is killed.
Sanders is back with Rita, who is recovering at a hospital. Andy is back with Cassie, and Tommy is in jail being assaulted by other prisoners.

Still wondering what the ending of Maggie Moore(s) (2023) really means? Here’s a spoiler-heavy breakdown of the final scene, major twists, and the deeper themes that shape the film’s conclusion.
Maggie Moore(s) presents a convoluted chain of events that ultimately reveal how a series of reckless decisions and underhanded plans unravel a killer’s story. Jay Moore, overwhelmed by financial stress and guilt over his involvement in hiding child abuse material with Tommy T, finds himself entangled in a drastic plan to cover his tracks. After his wife Maggie discovers Tommy’s illegal packages, she threatens to expose him, which triggers a violent chain of events. Jay, desperate to protect himself, hires hitman Cosco to scare Maggie, but the situation spirals out of control when Cosco kills her upon her resistance. This horrific turn puts Jay at the center of suspicion, and as the police start investigating, Jay’s plan to confuse them with another murder—of a second Maggie Moore—adds further chaos.
Jay’s scheme involves hiring Cosco to kill an entirely different woman named Maggie Moore, aiming to make the police believe the first murder was accidental or part of a double murder case. However, Deliberately or not, this complicates the case further, especially because the police’s suspicion initially points toward innocent parties like Andy Moore, the husband of the second Maggie, and others involved. Chief Sanders begins to piece everything together when he learns from Tommy T that Cosco isn’t deaf and that he’s been lying about his identity. This revelation comes after a tense confrontation at Cosco’s hideout, where shots are fired, and Deputy Reddy is killed.
Sanders’s persistence uncovers the truth: Cosco is actually Don Lindowski, an identity he used to hide his crimes. Cosco’s actions lead to a violent climax, during which he kills Jay, believing Jay had betrayed him to the police, and then attempts to eliminate Rita, a neighbor who had been spying on him. In the end, Rita’s quick thinking—reminding Cosco about the expensive airbags in her car—helps her escape when Cosco falls out of her vehicle and presumably dies in the process. With the murderer mostly dead and the case resolved, Chief Sanders finds a sense of closure. The final scenes reveal that Sanders, who has been haunted by his inability to solve previous cases, finally accepts happiness when he begins a relationship with Rita, embracing the possibility of moving forward and leaving his past behind. The ending underscores that in the chaos of misguided plans and secrets, the truth eventually comes to light, bringing some measure of justice and peace.
