Luis and the Aliens (2018) Timeline Explained – Every Event in Order

The aliens Wabo, Nag, and Mog possess a unique shape-shifting ability that is intimately linked to human hair. This is why they crash-land near Luis's home - they need access to human hair to power their transformation abilities. The more hair they have, the more elaborate their transformations can be, as demonstrated when they impersonate Luis to distract the Tontonian.

Foreshadowing: Earlier in the film, the aliens' need for hair is established when they first arrive at Luis's house, setting up the comedic hair-based transformations later in the story.

Agent Stu is a secret agent who masquerades as an ice cream vendor to protect Luis from an assassin sent to harm him. His intervention becomes crucial during the chaotic events at Dragon's Peak, where he saves Luis from the assassin and later encases Ms. Dieckendacker in ice after she transforms into a dangerous Tontonian.

Ms. Dieckendacker accidentally transforms into a gigantic Tontonian beast after absorbing human hair during the chaotic events at Dragon's Peak. This transformation turns her into a powerful, out-of-control creature that poses a serious threat to everyone around her, including Luis, who falls down a cliffside during the frenzy.

Foreshadowing: The aliens' hair-based transformation ability foreshadows that humans could also be affected by the same power, which happens when Ms. Dieckendacker encounters the alien technology.

Although Luis lives with his father Armin Sonntag, a renowned ufologist, he feels profoundly isolated because his father is always lost in his own thoughts and pursuits, particularly his obsession with aliens. Luis approaches his 12th birthday feeling utterly alone, despite having a parent in the house.

Foreshadowing: The opening scenes establish Luis's emotional isolation, which makes his eventual connection with the aliens and his sense of belonging at the film's end more meaningful.
