Luca's overprotective parents, Daniela and Lorenzo, express their fears about the dangers that the surface world holds. Their caution only fuels Luca's curiosity and desire to explore the unknown beyond the ocean.

One day, while exploring, Luca encounters Alberto Scorfano, another sea creature. Alberto shares thrilling tales of his adventures on land, sparking Luca's interest even further and convincing him to visit his secret island hideout.

As Luca and Alberto reach dry land, they experience a magical transformation into human forms. This pivotal moment opens up a new world of possibilities for them to explore the surface together.

In their secret hideout, Luca discovers a colorful poster of a Vespa scooter. Inspired by this finding, the duo decides to build their own scooter, which symbolizes their dreams of freedom and adventure.

While Luca embraces his new life on land, he keeps his adventures a secret from his parents. Only his supportive grandmother is aware of his dual existence as both a sea monster and a boy living on the surface.

Luca's adventurous activities are soon uncovered by Lorenzo and Daniela. In a protective response, they plan to send him deeper into the ocean to live with his uncle Ugo, which breaks Luca's heart.

Determined to seize his freedom, Luca escapes to Portorosso with Alberto. This marks the beginning of their thrilling escapades and their desire to challenge societal norms surrounding sea monsters.

In Portorosso, Luca and Alberto meet Ercole Visconti, the town bully and reigning champion of the Portorosso Cup Race. Tensions rise when Ercole threatens to expose Luca's true identity by attempting to dunk him in a fountain.

As Ercole prepares to humiliate Luca, he is unexpectedly saved by Giulia Marcovaldo, a brave girl who takes them in. Giulia nurtures them in her home, creating a bond that will drive their adventures further.

Luca, Giulia, and Alberto devise a plan to enter the Portorosso Cup Triathlon, hoping to win the cash prize to buy their dream Vespa. Each character takes on specific challenges to boost their chances of winning.

As training progresses, tensions arise when Alberto feels sidelined due to Luca’s growing friendship with Giulia. This jealousy culminates in a rift, leading to misunderstandings that threaten their bond.
