As Paul grows, he notices other children going to school, and he begins to question why he must stay apart. The morning after reveals a stark, devastating result: the lawn caretaker discovers the scene; Paul survives, but Emily does not.

The film closes with a quiet, almost hallucinatory glimpse of the future. Years later, Paul stands in a field with his girlfriend, whispering into the ears of sheep—echoing the rituals he and his mother once shared—suggesting that their bond has become a memory etched into the land itself.
