Amane Kazuya Takahashi is a routine office worker who feels his life slipping into monotony, and his girlfriend Natsue Yoshimura pushes him to take their relationship to the next level, even as he struggles with his own discomfort and detachment. One day, while behind the wheel, he hits a woman walking along the road. The accident lands her in the hospital, where she gradually recovers, but guilt gnaws at him. He suggests he wants to make amends, to repay what he’s lost, yet the woman vanishes from the hospital before any resolution can take shape.

Obsessed with the memory of that encounter, Amane stumbles into a nightclub one night and discovers the woman he hit—Hanabusa, a name he learns after following a quiet, intense pull. Hanabusa Kumiko Takeda explains that the venue is a haven for newhalves, transgender women, and that she herself is a pre-op trans woman. At first, Amane recoils in revulsion, but something about her presence draws him in, and he stays for the night, allowing curiosity and longing to override his initial disgust.

From that moment, Amane becomes consumed with the desire to see Hanabusa again. The two reconnect and share an intimate night where Hanabusa gently tutors him in the art of bodily connection, guiding him on top and bottom with a patient, almost clinical attentiveness. This encounter reshapes Amane’s sense of desire and belonging. He ends his relationship with Juri, and a complicated, dangerous bond blossoms between him and Hanabusa as they fall in love. In a separate, tense moment, Juri confronts the new dynamic and, in a tangled turn, ends up sleeping with Takayanagi, Amane’s co-worker Kunihiko Ida. The revelation injects another layer of strain into Amane’s already fragile world, and he tries to navigate the tensions between his evolving love for Hanabusa and the women who once mattered most to him.

As the relationship between Amane and Hanabusa deepens, they drive toward Amane’s hometown with a stubborn insistence on meeting his family. Hanabusa resists this plan, asking the car to pull over, and she ultimately refuses to participate in a family introduction. Amane’s insistence that their bond deserves a place in his life clashes with Hanabusa’s quiet plea for a choice—whether to stay together or part ways. When he pushes, she bluntly tells him that there is no easy future for someone like her, and the moment dissolves into a dangerous quiet. She even exhorts him to run over her again, a stark sign of the intensity and danger of their connection.

They sit in the car, Silent, as Amane voices a deep loneliness and longing he struggles to conceal. Hanabusa’s stance hardens, and the possibility of reconciliation feels both tantalizing and terrifying. In time, Takayanagi reveals a painful truth: he slept with Juri midway through the relationship and suggests that she and Amane might repair their bond. Amane privately admits that keeping away from both Juri and Hanabusa would be healthier, but in truth he finds himself more depressed and more drawn to the dangerous orbit they share.

The next morning, a stark moment in the snow frames the emotional toll. Hanabusa finds Amane in the frigid air and, after a small, fragile exchange, he returns a heel of one of her shoes, a quiet token that signals an opportunity to mend what’s broken. She stops him, and the two reach a fragile understanding that they should be lovers and try to rebuild what they have lost, even as the world around them continues to exert its pressure.

Meanwhile, Juri suspects that she is late and uses this as leverage to pull Amane back toward her, even to the point of urging him toward marriage. Amane and Hanabusa doubt her claim, interpreting it as manipulation, which only drives Juri further into anger and despair. She leaves a voice-mail that becomes a chilling echo: a threat of overdose and a plea for one more chance from Amane to come back to her. The message is as devastating as it is desperate, a stark reminder of how tangled love, guilt, and longing have become.

In the film’s final, haunting image, Hanabusa and Amane visit Juri, who lies now in a hospital bed, comatose. Amane declares that this is the end of a road, while Hanabusa counters that what they face is not an ending, but merely “the beginning.” The echo of those words lingers as the trio’s destinies hang in a delicate balance, leaving viewers with a sense of ambiguity about what comes next and how far love can sustain them through pain, memory, and the cost of wanting more than life has to offer.
