Kang-il [Go Soo] is a rescue firefighter whose wife died while he was helping someone else in an accident. Struggling with guilt for not saving her, he throws himself into dangerous missions to rescue others, letting the danger in his line of work fill the void left by his loss.

Mi-soo, a doctor at a general hospital, Han Hyo-joo makes a misdiagnosis and is sued by the patient’s husband when the patient slips into a critical condition. In a race against consequences, Mi-soo’s lawyer warns her that she could lose her medical license, so she tries to sway Kang-il to testify against the grieving husband for an assault. She sets out to win Kang-il over by dating him, though at first he resists and gives her the cold shoulder.

To close the gap, Mi-soo volunteers to be a paramedic and works alongside Kang-il, hoping to get closer to him. Despite their rough beginnings, the pair bond as they navigate dangerous rescue sites, and they gradually fall in love. Yet their relationship strains under the weight of memory and motive: Kang-il cannot fully let go of his late wife, and he soon learns the real reason Mi-soo approached him.

Kang-il becomes driven to chase the most perilous rescues again, while Mi-soo fights a personal battle as she is diagnosed with a brain tumor that causes periodic fainting. After failing to apologize to her patient’s husband, she resigns from her post and meets Kang-il one last time to confess her love in a church, but he offers no response and she leaves.

Guilt propels Kang-il into one final, explosive mission to save a trapped worker in a collapsing building. The rescue is harrowing: the team cannot save everyone, and the structure finally caves, trapping both of them. Mi-soo, hearing the news about the incident while en route to a brain surgery appointment, abandons her car to chase after him, uncertain if he will survive.

At the scene, the rescue team pulls Kang-il and the other occupant to safety, though he remains unconscious as he’s rushed to the hospital. He awakens after dreaming of Mi-soo and races to her hospital, only to hear that she has resigned. In a tender moment, he spots Mi-soo running across the road and, calling her name, they share a long-awaited kiss as friends and coworkers look on.

In the final turn, the firehouse routine continues, but the captain’s warning about not sleeping on the first day has a new twist: Mi-soo arrives as the new recruit. She joins Kang-il, and the two of them continue to work side by side as firefighters, ready for the next call.
