In Hong Kong, the drama unfurls around the city’s Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CIB) and its undercover operatives who must live a double life in secrecy. They walk a fine line between lawful duties and shadowy identities, never sure when their cover might be blown or when they’ll be forced to abandon the lives they’ve built. The stakes are raised when it’s revealed that a mole lurks inside the police force, threatening to unravel everything and put everyone’s safety at immediate risk.

Cheuk Hoi, a steadfast Chief Inspector in the CIB, embodies a blend of hard-nosed resolve and unconventional methods. When his longtime colleague Hong To Hang, a fellow Superintendent, is murdered after tumbling from a building, Hong’s dying words warn him that moles are embedded within the force. Hong also deletes the files of five undercover officers, erasing their police identities to shield them from retaliation. With the possibility of exposure looming over every move, Hoi refuses to wait for official guidance; he takes Hong’s instructions to heart and sets out on a solitary mission to locate the missing agents before the shadows close in.

With clues left by Hong guiding him, Hoi discovers Ting Siu Ka, who operates a quiet foot massage parlor on the surface. Ting Siu Ka is introduced as the first undercover contact, and the case unveils how she fits into the larger web of the operation. Charmaine Sheh Sze-Man brings Ting Siu Ka to life, and her role as Hoi’s new handler makes the pair a central axis as they begin to piece together the whereabouts of the other agents. Ting Siu Ka’s presence also hints at a tension-filled dynamic with Bao Seed, a figure who previously clashed with her and his partner, adding layers of alliance and risk as the investigation progresses. The team must balance trust and caution while navigating the dangerous underworld that Hong’s vanishings hinted at.

Parallel to Hoi’s hunt, Kobe Lin Ho Kan operates under the cover of a crooked stock broker to infiltrate triad circles and gain access to Chum Foon Hei, a coveted target. After a prison stint to deepen his cover, Kobe earns an invitation to join Foon Hei’s organization, a development that strains his relationship with ICAC officer Mok Sin Yan as she remains oblivious to his undercover role. This perilous balancing act intensifies the pressure on Hoi’s overarching mission, since the police and triads are increasingly porous and unpredictable.

Back at the heart of the investigation, Yan—Mok Sin Yan, a CIB detective who is wary of Hoi’s swift ascent—begins to scrutinize his every move. Her suspicions grow as she follows the pattern of his rapid progress and the cases that repeatedly go sideways. Meanwhile, Yan’s personal life becomes entangled with Hoi when he secretly becomes involved in her sister Katie Mok Sin Ching’s life, helping her escape an abusive marriage. As their professional relationship deepens, Hoi and Yan find themselves drawn together, their growing closeness complicating their separate missions and the danger surrounding them.

As Ting Siu Ka continues to work with Bao Seed on missions for Foon Hei, she begins to sense a deeper complexity in the operation. A crucial revelation emerges: Bao Seed is not just a separate component of the underworld—he is another undercover set in place by Hong. Ada, another undercover AI-enabled thread in this tangled fabric, is revealed to have a history with Hong and the mission’s true purpose becomes clearer to the five agents under Hoi’s watch. The intertwining loyalties create a precarious web in which the line between ally and enemy blurs, heightening the sense of imminent peril for everyone involved.

When Foon Hei’s son dies as a consequence of his own misdeeds, Foon Hei begins a slow transformation of character, signaling shifting allegiances and the possibility of redemption. This turning point further unsettles Hoi’s already fragile confidence, and he presses his suspicion toward Yip Siu-leung, a fellow officer he believes may be the mole. Kobe’s warning to Yan adds another layer of tension, as she initially dismisses it as jealousy. Yet she eventually pursues the matter herself, uncovering evidence that corroborates Hoi’s fears. The confrontation culminates in a deadly moment: Siu-leung confronts Yan, intent on killing her, but Kobe intervenes, tackling Siu-leung off the roof just in time to save her life.

The narrative builds a tense tapestry of loyalty, deception, and courage, where each undercover identity carries its own weight and every choice could unravel a friend, a partner, or an entire city’s sense of security.
