While serving his sentence in prison, Eugene Brown, commonly known as 'Chess Man,' immerses himself in the game of chess. He uses it as a strategy to cope with confinement, often trading cigarettes for the pleasure of engaging in mental combat with fellow inmates.

Before Eugene’s release, he receives a wooden king chess piece from a fellow inmate. The gesture holds deep significance as the inmate shares wise words that resonate with Eugene: 'Take care of the King, everything else follows,' symbolizing the importance of leadership and responsibility.
