The Archangel Michael, portrayed by Paul Bettany, falls from the heavens to Los Angeles and, in a drastic move, sever his own wings. He embarks on a mission after raiding a weapons cache and commandeering a police car, making his way to the Paradise Falls Diner, situated near the edge of the Mojave Desert. Meanwhile, a devoted single father named Kyle, played by Tyrese Gibson, makes a pit stop at the diner during his trip to Los Angeles. Inside the diner, he encounters various characters, including the diner’s skeptical owner, Bob Hanson, the mechanic Jeep, played by Lucas Black, who harbors feelings for Charlie, a pregnant waitress portrayed by Adrianne Palicki, and the cook Percy, who has endured a significant loss in combat.

As the narrative unfolds, we learn that Charlie plans to relinquish her baby for adoption once it arrives, creating a complex dynamic with Jeep, who loves her unconditionally despite knowing the child isn’t his. The tension escalates as a swarm of flies envelops the diner, leading to an unsettling encounter with Gladys, an elderly diner patron who exhibits bizarre hostility, claiming dire things about Charlie’s baby.

“What’s coming is going to be hell,” reveals Michael as he mobilizes the diner’s patrons in a desperate fight against the relentless waves of possessed individuals targeting them. The situation worsens when Michael discloses a grim prophecy: God has abandoned humanity, and His angels, led by Gabriel, are set on eradicating mortal existence. However, Michael believes in humankind’s potential for redemption and defies God’s command to destroy Charlie’s unborn child, emphasizing that the baby is crucial for humanity’s salvation.

The situation spirals further as the diner patrons experience unrelenting horror, marked by tragic losses, including the shocking fate of Howard and the anguish of Sandra, who succumbs to madness. As the night wears on, Kyle falls victim to a trap, and with Charlie going into labor, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

In the climax, chaos reigns as Michael and Gabriel clash. In a profound moment, Michael ultimately sacrifices himself to protect the survivors and to fulfill a greater purpose. With newfound hope, Jeep and Charlie, alongside the newborn, escape the horror of the diner as the sun rises, ready to confront whatever lies ahead. The journey is far from over, but they drive forth with a newfound strength, armed with weapons—a hopeful sign that humanity still has a fighting chance.
