Legends of the Condor Heroes: The Gallants

The story begins during the Southern Song dynasty amidst a war between the Mongols and the Jin Dynasty. Guo Jing, a fictional martial artist, embarks on a two-year journey to the Central Plains to master martial arts.

During his travels, Guo Jing meets Huang Rong, who helps him find a better master than his previous instructors. He begins studying under Hong Qigong, learning the powerful Eighteen Dragon-Subduing Palms technique.

A critical moment occurs when Huang Rong is seriously injured, prompting Guo Jing to carry her on his back to seek healing from Reverend Yideng. There, he gains knowledge of the healing techniques from the Nine Yin Manual.

When Guo Jing accompanies Huang Rong to her home island, he discovers that his former masters have been murdered. Believing Huang Rong's father to be responsible, he feels betrayed and leaves her.

Huang Rong is captured by Ouyang Feng, a martial arts master loyal to the Jin. Ouyang Feng seeks the Nine Yin Manual that both she and Guo Jing possess, prompting Huang Rong to devise a plan to escape.

Using her wits during a chaotic scene, Huang Rong manages to escape from Ouyang Feng's clutches by cutting her restraints and leaping into the river. This marks a turning point in her desperate bid for freedom.

After some time, Guo Jing realizes his mistake in leaving Huang Rong and leaves her clues to find him. Resting by a river, he overhears a plot to poison the water and intervenes to save the victims.

Guo Jing receives a warm welcome upon returning to the Mongol camp, including an emotional reunion with his mother, who has awaited his return for two years. However, duty calls him back to the fight.

While journeying across the grasslands, Huang Rong discovers one of Guo Jing's pinwheels that points her towards him. Unfortunately, she also learns that she's being pursued by Ouyang Feng's men once again.

At the Mongol camp, Guo Jing faces tension with Mongol princess Hua Zheng, who is excited about their arranged marriage. Guo Jing's refusal to engage with her emotions leads to further complications.

Ouyang Feng and his men attack the camp during a demonstration of Guo Jing's martial arts. The situation escalates when Huang Rong saves Wang Zheng by using a copy of the Nine Yin Manual to distract Ouyang Feng.

In the aftermath of tension with the Jin forces, Genghis Khan prepares to march on the Jin capital. Guo Jing is ordered to lead the Mongol army, intensifying the conflict within himself regarding loyalty to his homeland.

Confronted by his duty and personal loss, Guo Jing learns the Mongols will attack his homeland, leading to his mother's tragic decision to take her own life. This moment solidifies his resolve to protect his homeland.

Before the Mongols launch their assault, Guo Jing confronts the unstable Ouyang Feng, who has become a wild card in the escalating conflict. Their battle puts both sides at risk, demonstrating the cost of unchecked ambition.

In a climactic moment, Guo Jing convinces Genghis Khan to retreat from the impending attack on the Song city. His heartfelt speech about protecting his people saves the town from destruction and redefines his role as a hero.
