Legend of the Demon Cat

Chunqin, the wife of a commanding army leader, makes a fateful pact with a mysterious talking black cat. In exchange for providing the cat with fish eyes, she receives a fortune in coins, which she shares with her husband, thus initiating a series of supernatural events.

A Japanese Buddhist monk named Kukai arrives at the imperial court to aid Emperor Xuanzong, who is suffering from a mysterious and debilitating curse. The Emperor's plight is intensified by a series of eerie cat wails that coincide with his tragic death, setting the stage for unraveling dark mysteries.

During his stay at the court, Kukai meets Bai Letian, a poet famous for writing 'Chang hen ge' (Song of Everlasting Sorrow). Bai's poem captures the essence of Yang Guifei's tragic life, deepening the sense of loss felt within the palace walls.

Simultaneously, Chunqin slips into a mysterious coma-like sleep, with her fate paralleling that of Yang Guifei. This concurrent demise heightens the supernatural atmosphere, leading to further spectral encounters.

Kukai and Bai letian discover Chunqin's ghostly form reciting poetry on rooftops, suggesting her transition into a spectral being. This event raises Kukai's suspicions that Chunqin may be linked to malevolent forces at play, particularly in relation to the demon cat.

The duo investigates Yang Guifei's abandoned home and is confronted by Chunqin's ghost once more. This time, she reveals her transformation into the demon cat due to past betrayals and unresolved vengeance, shedding light on her horrific transformation.

As the supernatural forces continue to influence the commander, he tragically kills Chunqin, driving himself into madness. This event starkly highlights the consequences of his prior dealings with the demon cat and deepens the narrative of vengeance.

Kukai and Bai Letian's quest for answers leads them to seek insight from Qin Yi, the lady-in-waiting to Yang Guifei. However, they are met with dismay when they learn that she was absent during Yang's tragic demise, complicating their investigation.

The duo encounters the demon cat, which exerts its malevolent influence over Qin Yi, leading to her untimely death. This horrific event intensifies their urgency to uncover the truth behind the spectral happenings surrounding Yang Guifei and Chunqin.

Bai Letian and Kukai manage to access the diary of Abe no Nakamaro, which reveals a shocking plan devised to save Yang Guifei. This plan involved inducing a state of apparent death through acupuncture, intending to mislead soldiers closing in on her.

Upon learning the details of the scheme, Kukai and Bai Letian realize its disastrous outcome. Yang Guifei was buried alive alongside her faithful black cat, starkly highlighting the catastrophic misjudgments made during the Imperial crisis.

Upon arriving at Yang Guifei's tomb, Kukai and Bai Letian uncover the chilling truth of her burial alive. They find evidence of her final moments, which connects them to the broader narrative of betrayal and loss that shadows their investigation.

At Yang Guifei's gravesite, loyal attendants Dan Long and Bai Long reveal disturbing truths about the decisions made regarding Yang's fate. Dan Long admits knowledge of a deceitful scheme to poison Yang, igniting anger and betrayal within Bai Long.

Bai Long chooses to sacrifice his life essence, merging his spirit with the black cat to stand against the combined forces threatening their peace. This act of loyalty transforms him into a vessel of enlightenment, revealing the truth about Yang Guifei's fate.

Kukai, Bai Letian, and Dan Long confront the demon cat as it threatens their existence. The confrontation culminates in Bai Long's spirit transforming into a white crane, which flies away, leaving the malevolent cat to face its demise amidst the fallout of the confrontation.
