Kung Fu: The Movie

In 1885, a Manchu nobleman arrives in a town between San Francisco and Sacramento with his young servant Chung Wang, who is under a magical influence. Their mission is to find Kwai Chang Caine, the Shaolin priest with a price on his head. Chung Wang acts as both valet and weapon, used to coerce Caine's surrender. The encounter sets a tense chase in motion across the frontier.

Caine, now gray-haired, works as a warehouse laborer while shielding his countrymen from a cruel foreman. He avoids trouble and keeps his head down, but the community knows he is no ordinary laborer. The quiet life is shattered when trouble linked to the Manchu begins to ripple through the town.

Reverend Lawrence Perkins is murdered in a local opium den by one of the Manchu's agents during a broader raid on Chinese residents. The body is found and the raid escalates into a full criminal investigation led by Sheriff Mills. Caine's expertise with Chinese drugs and weapons makes him a prime, yet dangerous, suspect.

Mrs Perkins pleads for Caine to help uncover the truth behind her husband's death. He agrees to investigate, while Chung Wang shadows him, testing Caine's patience and resolve. The uneasy dynamic foreshadows the mentor‑pupil relationship to come.

Caine invites Chung Wang to share his lodging and offers him a job at the warehouse, hoping to teach humility before sword and kung fu. Their early sessions clash with the young man's impulsiveness, yet there are hints of greater potential. The seeds of a dangerous bond begin to take root.

Caine sees Master Po in a vision who confirms troubling news from China and warns of danger in a cemetery. The spiritual visit underscores Caine's path and foreshadows the climactic confrontation to come. The warning deepens his resolve to prepare.

Ching, the opium den’s host, sets a trap for Caine using Mrs Perkins as bait. Mrs Perkins escapes, Ching dies in the confrontation, and one of his henchmen is killed. Deputy Wyatt discovers Caine's wanted poster on Ching's body, tightening the noose around him.

Mrs Perkins confronts the Manchu at the Perkins Trading Company, where he reveals he is the father of the Emperor's Nephew whom Caine killed in China. He declares Chung Wang is his son and orders Chung Wang to kill Caine. The revelation raises the stakes to a personal family vendetta.

An epic fight erupts as Caine battles the Manchu's henchmen and rescues Mrs Perkins. He is ultimately captured by Deputy Wyatt and hauled off to jail. The escape from danger is unfinished, as the system continues to fail him.

In prison, Sheriff Mills visits Caine and begins to uncover a web of corruption around the opium trade. The Manchu visits and pressures him toward a final duel at the cemetery, threatening Chung Wang's life if he refuses. Mills vows to help free him if he can prove his innocence.

Wyatt murders Sheriff Mills after discovering evidence of the illegal opium network. Caine is put on trial for Perkins' murder and related crimes, and is found guilty, receiving a death sentence. Mrs Perkins remains a key ally as they piece together corruption to exonerate him.

Caine escapes from prison and, with Mrs Perkins, exposes the opium ring to a Federal Marshal who refuses to act. That night, the Manchu conducts a flamethrower test while Deputy Wyatt abducts Mrs Perkins to lure Caine into a warehouse rigged with flying spears. The ensuing battle ends with the Deputy and Mrs Perkins killed.

In the Chinese cemetery-park, Master Po appears in a final vision as Caine taps into inner strength. It is revealed that Caine is Chung Wang's father, not merely his teacher. Father and son walk forward together, ready to confront the opium trade and defend the innocent.
