Thangaraj, Nassar, is an innocent man from a humble, middle-class family that includes his wife Meenakshi Khushboo and their daughter Padma Kavitha. Boxer Krishnan, Vadivelu, Thangaraj’s younger brother, harbors big dreams of making it in politics, while Thangaraj’s other brother Sivaraman, Karan, is well-educated and works in the same company owned by Valluvardasan, Vijayakumar. The trio share a single house, forming a close-knit joint family, and Thangaraj and Meenakshi have raised Sivaraman as their own. As Sivaraman earns more, the family’s finances improve, and Valluvardasan grows fond of Thangaraj’s household, even proposing a marriage between Tamilselvi, Roja Selvamani, his daughter, and Sivaraman, bridging a gap in social status while valuing the unity of the family.

Kanagavalli, Kovai Sarala, Krishnan’s wife, remains wary about Tamilselvi entering the household, given her wealth, but Tamilselvi treats everyone with genuine respect and patience, slowly earning their trust. Yet the harmony is tested as Sivaraman starts to believe he is the primary breadwinner, insisting that other family members defer to him, which triggers frequent clashes with Krishnan who resents being idle at home while chasing his political dreams.

Dhandapani, Vivek, a neighbor, falls in love with Padma, and Thangaraj plans to secure their marriage. To make this possible, Dhandapani’s father Veerapandi demands a substantial dowry. Thangaraj and Krishnan agree to provide the money, hoping Sivaraman will contribute, but Sivaraman balks at the cost. The growing tension drives a wedge through the home: Meenakshi feels deeply uneasy about the shift in priorities and leaves the house with Padma, while Thangaraj himself also exits, leaving the family temporarily fractured.

Tamilselvi becomes aware of the rift and moves to mend it, reaching out to Meenakshi and Kanagavalli to help, offering the money needed for Padma’s wedding. Yet Thangaraj remains wary, sensing that Sivaraman’s change has altered the family’s dynamic, and he is not eager to rely on Tamilselvi’s aid. Despite the misgivings, Tamilselvi, Meenakshi, and Kanagavalli unite to see Padma wed Dhandapani, a decision that marks a turning point in their collective journey.

In a pivotal moment, Thangaraj’s coworkers side with him to protest Sivaraman’s actions, and the tension comes to a head as Sivaraman is publicly challenged and beaten. Gradually realizing his mistake, Sivaraman apologizes to his family, and the film closes with the family reclaiming their status as a united joint family once again, reaffirming the ties that bind them despite the earlier strains.
