Into this already volatile mix arrives Anamala Haridas, a talented but struggling singer who travels to the village in search of his estranged aunt Maniyamma and her daughter, Sakunthala. Haridas’s presence ignites a spark of romance when he falls for [Sheela], a case of mistaken identity that deepens the family’s complexities rather than clarifying them. At the same time, a genuine relationship blossoms between Chandran and Sakunthala, a union that is soon caught in the crosshairs of tradition, pride, and the elders’ wary eyes.

When Chandran confesses his love, Damodaran resists, insisting that the alliance must meet his approval and align with the family’s interests. In response, Uthaman manipulates the situation, getting Chandran to sign a document promising not to trouble the family after marriage, a move that further fractures trust and fuels ongoing tension. The family’s fragile equilibrium is shaken when Uthaman marries Sugandhi, the daughter of the powerful Vasu Contractor (a figure who looms large in the brothers’ past and present), adding another layer of personal and financial entanglement to the saga.

Chandran, determined to secure a life with Sakunthala, accompanies his father for the marriage arrangement, only to witness Damodaran publicly insulting Sakunthala. In a dramatic counter, Haridas speaks up on Sakunthala’s behalf, asserting that she is the daughter of the wealthiest man, Ananda Kuruppu, and proclaiming his intent to make the wedding grand. The ceremony proceeds, and the newlyweds begin their life together, but the act triggers a surge of emotional repercussions across the family.

After the wedding, Sheela unexpectedly declares herself married to Chandran, a revelation that is quickly accepted by the community and adds further strain to the already precarious family unit. Sakunthala endures a scathing insult from Dakshayani, but she stands firm, and gradually the collective stance gives way to a resigned, uneasy consensus.

As debts mount, Viswabharan seeks help from [Vasu Contractor], only to be met with disappointment and renewed hardship. The fragile balance of power shifts again as Chandran and Haridas strive to forge a path forward amid mounting obstacles. A painful truth emerges: Chandran discovers that his elder brother’s machinations have stripped away much of the family’s property, leaving him and his father to confront a future fraught with loss. In a moment of heartbreak, Viswabharan seeks an apology from his elder brother, but his heart gives way to a fatal attack.

With the family’s finances in tatters, Chandran and his wife attempt to reclaim dignity through hard work, and both begin to earn, even as Damodaran is forced to confront the brutal reality that his own arc has left him with nothing. The bank ultimately auctions off the home, and the property is acquired by Ananda Kuruppu in a cruel twist of fate that underscores the film’s meditation on money, power, and forgiveness.

In the closing act, Damodaran confronts Uthaman in a moment of raw emotion, slapping him and disowning him in a powerful, tangible repudiation of the choices that fractured the family. Ananda Kuruppu weighs in with a hard-won, candid philosophy: there are mistakes even in the older generation, and it is time to move on.
