In this heartfelt and culturally rich film, the story unfolds in a peaceful village where Kittayya, a devout follower of Krishna often referred to as Kannayya out of deep affection, finds himself embroiled in familial conflicts and divine adventures. Kittayya’s life is shaped by his unwavering devotion and his protective instincts toward his family, especially in opposition to his malicious maternal uncle, Bangaraiah. Their ongoing feud is fueled by Bangaraiah’s unscrupulous behavior and desire to dominate, especially over his daughter Saroja, played by Shobana, who returns from abroad flaunting her vanity and seeking to assert her independence.
The story becomes more intense when Janakamma, Kittayya’s mother, is forced into a difficult situation by Bangaraiah’s schemes to marry Saroja to Kittayya in an attempt to boost her own pride. When Saroja mocks him, she inadvertently becomes the target of Bangaraiah’s revenge, who publicly humiliates her and her family through cunning tricks designed to disgrace them. Overcome with shame and despair, Janakamma contemplates ending her life, but before doing so, she swears Kittayya to remain steadfast and strong. Kittayya, determined and passionate, vows to make Bangaraiah humble himself, and his fervent devotion reaches Krishna / Rajendra Prasad in Vaikuntha.
The divine Kannayya, who appears identical to Kittayya, is deeply moved by his devotee’s plight. Kannayya decides to come down to Earth to support Kittayya in his struggles. The scenes depict Kittayya’s confusion and amazement at encountering his divine double, which only he can see. Guided by Kannayya, Kittayya takes bold steps to win Saroja’s love and to protect her from her wicked relatives. His perseverance and unwavering loyalty ultimately succeed when he rescues her from danger, solidifying their bond.
Meanwhile, Narada’s misguidance leads to a comic misunderstanding—he informs Rukmini and Satyabhama, the divine Goddesses, that Krishna is secretly courting women on Earth. Curious and suspicious, the Goddesses descend to Earth, dropping their divine personas. However, they mistakenly believe themselves to be Kittayya’s future wives, leading to humorous yet tense situations. Their arrival sparks outrage in Bangaraiah, who schemes to get rid of the divine women and even plots to harm them. In his malicious intent, Bangaraiah seeks to eliminate Rukmini and Satyabhama to keep his niece Saroja for himself, not knowing the true divine identities.
In a daring challenge, Kannayya encourages Kittayya to prove himself by presenting the divine women before the village. If he succeeds, Bangaraiah must accept their marriage to Saroja. However, divine intervention complicates matters when Rukmini and Satyabhama intervene and take Kannayya away, causing Kittayya to face severe hardships and torture for his faith and devotion. Despite these trials, Kittayya bravely retrieves Kannayya, clears his name, and reforms Bangaraiah, convincing him of the divine’s true nature.
The story culminates in a joyful resolution: Kittayya marries Saroja, and everyone recognizes the divine presence of Kannayya and the heroism of Kittayya. Throughout the narrative, themes of devotion, righteousness, and divine grace are celebrated, weaving humor with spiritual depth. The film ends on a triumphant note, emphasizing faith and the power of conviction, illustrating that truth and devotion will ultimately prevail.
