Stuntman Viraj Shergill, Akshay Kumar, and medical student Simrita Rai, Kareena Kapoor Khan, collide at a hastily planned wedding between Viraj’s brother Lucky Shergill, Aftab Shivdasani, and Simrita’s best friend Kamini Sandhu, Amrita Arora. From their very first meeting, the pair tomes their teeth into a rocky dynamic, driven by a shared distrust of romance and a stubborn belief that marriage might not be for either of them. The tension between them grows as they each try to nudge the couple away from a lifelong commitment, each in their own way, turning the wedding into a subtle battleground over trust, desire, and the meaning of devotion.
Kamini proposes a test to prove her theory that men chase only one thing, persuading Lucky to push back the wedding by three months. In response, Viraj schemes to spark jealousy by nudging Kamini toward a supposed affair, hoping to derail the plan in a dramatic fashion. The scheme spirals into a chaotic disco scene that ends with a police raid, landing Kamini and Lucky in divorce court. The judge issues a three-month probation and suggests marriage counseling, while Simrita doubles down on her belief that all men share the same basal instincts, a claim she quietly defends as the reality she has observed in life and love.
The story then expands beyond their initial clash as both head to Italy—Simrita chasing modeling gigs to fund her medical bills, and Viraj, along with Lucky, trying to escape the mounting stress at home. Upon her return, Simrita receives a watch pendant from her aunt Dolly, a good-luck charm that hangs from a bracelet on her wrist. Kirron Kher plays Dolly, giving the pendant a sentimental weight that will later become central to the plot. When Viraj suffers a serious accident at work, he lands in the same hospital where Simrita interns, and she is assigned to perform his surgery. During the examination, the X-ray reveals the pendant has somehow ended up in Viraj’s stomach, a startling twist that forces Simrita to confront not only a medical puzzle but also the personal history that has shaped her views on trust and faith.
Desperate to retrieve the watch, Simrita tries several methods, all while wrestling with the bitterness she carries from her childhood—tensions involving her father and her elder sister’s ex-husband that colored her sense of fidelity. Meanwhile, Viraj begins to see her in a new light, slowly falling for the intelligent, stubborn doctor who is now a patient and a confidante. After the surgery, Viraj overhears truths he hadn’t anticipated and, overwhelmed, leaves. Yet the distance between them does not end the story; days later, he proposes to Denise Richards, Denise Richards in an effort to move on from his feelings for Simrita.
Back at the wedding, Simrita makes a bold choice: she decides to confess her love for Viraj. Denise’s initial upset gives way to understanding, and she urges Viraj to follow his heart toward Simrita. The couple’s reunion culminates in a kiss as they slip away together in a car, leaving the wedding tensions behind and stepping into a future that neither of them had anticipated, but both seem ready to embrace with honesty and hope.
