Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre is an orphan raised by an abusive aunt and cousins at Gateshead Hall. The environment treats learning as cruelty, and a trusted friend dies after punishment in the rain. These hardships shape her resilience and sense of self as she longs for dignity and autonomy.

After the guests depart, Rochester declares his love and proposes to Jane in the garden of a neighboring property, and she initially accepts.
