Jack and the Beanstalk

Eloise and her fiancé Arthur plan to attend a rehearsal, but no one from their circle can babysit Eloise's rambunctious kid brother Donald. She phones the Cosman Employment Agency to hire help. At the agency, Mr. Dinkle and Jack hope to land a job, hoping to babysit Donald.

Polly, a Cosman employee, sends Dinkle and Jack to babysit Donald. Jack flirts with Polly, but her towering police-officer boyfriend arrives, complicating the setup. Polly confirms the assignment and the two men head out to take care of Donald.

Back at home, an attempt to lull Donald to sleep with the Jack and the Beanstalk tale goes awry when Jack stumbles over the big words. Donald ends up reading the story aloud instead, leaving Jack to drift into sleep. The door to a dream world opens as Jack slips into slumber.

In his dream, Jack becomes the young Jack from the tale, facing a giant who has seized the kingdom's food and jewels. The kingdom's princess is forced to marry a prince she has never met. Jack's mother sends him to sell their last possession, their cow Henry, to the local butcher Mr. Dinklepuss.

Along the way, Jack meets a prince disguised as a troubador who is soon kidnapped by the giant. Meanwhile, the unscrupulous Mr. Dinklepuss pays Jack five 'magic' beans in exchange for the cow Henry. The strange trade seals the start of Jack's quest.

When Jack returns home, he learns the giant has kidnapped the princess as well as Henry. The quest becomes personal as the stakes rise for Jack and the kingdom.

Frustrated by the beans, Jack's mother demands action and tells him to plant them. Overnight a gigantic beanstalk shoots up, reaching toward the sky and promising escape from the giant's grasp. Jack readies himself for a climb that could change everything.

Jack begins his ascent up the beanstalk to rescue everyone and retrieve Nellie, the golden-egg-laying hen. Dinklepuss joins the expedition, eager to profit from the adventure. The world above the clouds is a perilous new frontier.

At the beanstalk's summit, Jack, Dinklepuss, and the royal pair are imprisoned inside the giant's realm. The princess falls for the disguised troubador, only to discover he is the prince she is betrothed to, complicating loyalties and love.

The giant releases Jack and Dinklepuss toiling around the castle, but Jack sabotages the kitchen by mixing gunpowder with chicken feed, turning the giant's omelette into a fiery explosion on the giant's face. The giants misfortunes escalate as the escape plans begin to form.

Polly the housekeeper befriends the group and helps them escape over the castle wall. They flee with the royal prisoners, Nellie, and some stolen gems, which Dinklepuss had pilfered along the way. The escape plan moves from a fantasy to a frantic flight.

The group races down the beanstalk with the giant in hot pursuit. Nellie slips away, landing in the arms of Jack's mother, and the gems rain down upon the impoverished villagers below. The escape has unintended consequences for the townspeople.

All reach the ground safely, and Jack cuts down the beanstalk, causing the giant to plummet to his death. The villagers celebrate by dancing around the hole left by the fallen giant, free of his menace at last.

Just before receiving a royal reward, Jack is awakened when Donald bangs a vase over his head as Eloise and Arthur return from rehearsal. Jack's cry echoes through the room, and Dinkle delivers a second blow that pulls him back into the dream.

After greeting Eloise and Arthur as their storybook counterparts, Jack dances off into the night, leaving the dream world behind for the moment. The line between dream and reality blurs as the couple returns to the present.
