A wealthy widower finds himself alone in the world, with a beautiful daughter named Cinderella. In an attempt to provide her with a mother figure, he remarries Lady Tremaine, a woman who brings her own two daughters, Anastasia and Drizella, into the home. Initially hopeful, the widower’s vision of family happiness is shattered upon his untimely death. Lady Tremaine’s jealousy over Cinderella’s grace and unmatched beauty transforms her into a mere servant in her own home, while she showers undue affection on her biological daughters, further fueling the animosity.
In this unforgiving atmosphere, Cinderella’s life becomes a constant struggle. Her stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella, exploit her gentle nature, subjecting her to ridicule and an overwhelming workload. Nevertheless, Cinderella’s heart remains pure and compassionate; she dutifully tends to her chores while nurturing a bond with the mice and birds in the chateau. Among these little friends are two spirited mice named Jaq and Gus, who become her confidants and allies as she battles the added challenges posed by her stepmother’s cunning cat, Lucifer. This infamous feline often sees to it that her tasks are made even more difficult, adding to her plight.
Meanwhile, in the kingdom, the aging King yearns for grandchildren, and his son, the Prince, who shies away from courtship, becomes the center of his father’s ambitions. To remedy this, the King announces a grand ball, inviting all eligible maidens in the realm to attend. News of the ball reaches Cinderella, but her hopes are dashed when her stepmother places unreasonable demands on her, insisting she finish endless housework and find a suitable dress to wear.
Determined to help their beloved friend, Jaq and Gus take matters into their own hands, crafting a splendid gown from her late mother’s wedding dress and embellishing it with trimmings from Anastasia and Drizella. With uncontainable joy, Cinderella thanks her little friends for their effort. However, at the moment of her excitement, the two stepsisters come crashing back into her life, tearing her dress to shreds in a fit of envy. Heartbroken, Cinderella escapes to the garden, kneeling on a stone bench in despair.
In this moment of despair, her Fairy Godmother appears, wielding magic like nothing Cinderella has ever seen. With a wave of her wand, she turns Jaq, Gus, and two other mice into four majestic white horses, transforms a humble pumpkin into a magnificent coach, a sturdy old horse named Major becomes the dashing coachman, and even her loyal bloodhound, Bruno, takes on the role of footman. The most breathtaking transformation is that of Cinderella herself, who is gifted with an enchanting ball gown and delicate glass slippers, although her Fairy Godmother cautions her that this magical enchantment will vanish at the stroke of midnight.
At the ball, Cinderella captivates everyone, including the Prince, who has eyes only for her. Overwhelmed by the moment, she feels an undeniable connection, and they both fall deeply in love. However, as the clock approaches midnight, she recalls the warning from her Fairy Godmother and hastily flees, leaving the Prince puzzled and heartbroken without even knowing her name. In her hurry, Cinderella loses one of her glass slippers on the palace staircase, and although the Grand Duke attempts to pursue her, she escapes seamlessly into the night, with the magic dissolving as the clock strikes twelve.
The Prince is now determined to find the enchanting maiden whose foot fits the elusive glass slipper. He commands the Grand Duke to embark on this quest, leading to a series of comedic failures as the stepsisters Anastasia and Drizella struggle to fit the slipper. Meanwhile, Lady Tremaine locks Cinderella in her room, desperate to keep her from realizing her potential. But the resourceful Jaq and Gus steal the key from the stepmother, courageously making their way past Lucifer, who tries to thwart their escape.
The tale takes a dramatic turn when the loyal birds summon Bruno, who frightens Lucifer away, allowing Cinderella to reach freedom. Just as the Grand Duke is about to give up hope, Cinderella finally appears. However, in a last-ditch effort to thwart her, Lady Tremaine causes the messenger to trip, shattering the fragile slipper into pieces. Unfazed, Cinderella unveils the other slipper, which fits perfectly, revealing her true identity. With that, the kingdom rejoices as Cinderella and the Prince tie the knot, heralding a new beginning filled with happiness and love as they step into their “happily ever after.”
