Suhaan Kapoor receives a notice demanding ₹5 million in alimony from his ex-wife Piya, who now lives in New York. His finances are stretched thin, and he turns to his mediation-lawyer uncle Bonney Kapoor for help. The demand triggers a plan to avoid the liability.

Bonney explains that the best path to reduce or avoid alimony is to orchestrate a feasible match for Piya. Suhaan agrees to explore an unconventional option and reaches out to Agastya Rao. The trio decides to travel to New York to attempt the arrangement.

Agastya Rao arrives at their doorstep, confessing that he loved Piya during college but never found the courage to tell her. He learns that Piya ultimately married Suhaan and that his own heartbreak was caused by the very man who became her husband. This revelation sets the stage for their ill-fated matchmaking scheme.

In college, Suhaan and Piya fall in love and elope. Suhaan hides their marriage to protect his budding acting career, while Piya hopes for a future together. When his film prospects wane, he returns home and discovers she has left him.

Piya's departure triggers ongoing marital strain and the onset of divorce proceedings. Suhaan, still chasing the dream of stardom, reluctantly agrees to the plan to couple her with Agastya as a means to secure the alimony issue. Bonney and Suhaan prepare to execute their controversial matchmaking scheme.

They travel to New York to begin the scheme, with Agastya playing the unwitting candidate in their plan. Suhaan positions himself as a distant mentor, guiding Agastya's attempts to woo Piya without revealing their true motive. The stakes are high, and every gesture is carefully orchestrated.

They rent an apartment opposite Piya's and deploy telescopes, binoculars, and surveillance techniques to monitor her movements. Suhaan communicates with Agastya via a headset, coaching him with lines to win Piya's heart. The setup is tense, comic, and morally questionable as the ruse unfolds.

One night, Suhaan learns that Piya has a baby girl named Suhaani, making the situation more complicated. He realizes that Piya left him not out of disregard, but to shield him and their child from a ruined career and life. The discovery deepens his resolve to make amends.

As the relationship between Piya and Agastya grows, Piya becomes engaged to him. Suhaan watches with mixed emotions, torn between gratitude for Piya's happiness and regret for their lost years. He begins to question whether the plan can ever be salvaged.

Piya's brother Vishal reveals that he had been hiding Suhaan's letters and helped precipitate the divorce. Agastya realizes that Piya still loves Suhaan, not him, and urges her to be with the man she truly loves. Piya starts reconsidering her engagement and the real nature of her feelings.

Piya flies back to India where Suhaan is struggling to find acting work. After confronting their past, they admit their enduring love and decide to reunite and raise their daughter together. The film closes with the promise of a repaired family.

A few years later, Agastya is aboard a NASA Space Shuttle and video-conferences with Suhaan and Piya on Suhaan's birthday. He introduces his new girlfriend, who bears a striking resemblance to Piya, hinting at the enduring echo of their past romance. The moment suggests that love and family endure across time and distance.
