Read the complete plot breakdown of Ittymaani: Made In China (2019), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Ittymaani, Mohanlal, grows up in China until he’s ten, then moves to India and makes a life for himself in the hometown of Kunnamkulam. He runs a modest Chinese restaurant and a catering service, and he even owns an ambulance driven by his close friend Sugunan, Dharmajan Bolgatty. His main business is a family enterprise that began with his grandfather in China—selling knockoff goods—yet Ittymaani also likes to take a commission on every money transfer he handles, a habit that even follows him when his mother Theyyamma, KPAC Lalitha, is hospitalised for gallstone treatment.

He also sits on the church committee and takes on a contract to build a church bell, weaving himself into a pivotal local role. An arranged marriage is fixed with Jessy, a doctor based in London, arranged through a matchmaker named Paulinos. Honey Rose brings Jessy to life on screen, while the plan is negotiated through the broker Paulinos. But the moment brokerage is demanded, Ittymaani stands his ground and asks for a commission, a dispute that fractures the engagement and leads to Jessy’s dismissal.

The fallout deepens when Paulinos feeds Joji, Hareesh Perumanna the story that Ittymaani mocks Joji and emasculates him, driving a wedge between the two men. As the parish prepares for the farewell function of the current priest, a new bell is to be inaugurated. When the bell swings, it breaks and the priest blacks out, and Ittymaani is blamed for receiving a counterfeit bell and is expelled from the church committee. Sugunan uncovers that a worker was bribed to supply a faulty bell, deepening the sense of betrayal.

The new priest is John (Joppan), a figure Ittymaani recognizes from a troubled past in an alcohol rehabilitation center. The two men strike a deal: they will not expose John’s past in exchange for Ittymaani’s readmission to the church committee, a fragile truce that keeps a tense peace in the community.

Meanwhile, Annamma, Radikaa Sarathkumar, is a neighbour and close friend of Theyyamma who lives alone, her children—Alex, Ajo, and Betty—often away. Annamma invites them to a heart-to-heart gathering to mark her late husband’s death, but none of the siblings show up, leaving Ittymaani to connect with Annamma and promise to visit her at Christmas. Annamma’s health deteriorates and she’s hospitalised with a heart condition, while her children rush off to enjoy their holidays in Munnar. When they finally return home, they discover that Annamma has married Ittymaani, a revelation that ignites a fresh storm of conflict.

The parish condemns the unlikely union, and Ittymaani confesses to Joppan that the marriage has been staged with Theyyamma’s knowledge to restore affection and trust. With Annamma’s assets not partitioned, the children fear the loss of their claim to her estate and plot to persuade her to sever the bond. Alex, Ajo, and Betty seek Joji’s counsel to rid themselves of Ittymaani, and Betty even accuses Ittymaani of sexual misconduct; a coercive plan nearly succeeds, but a recorded footage of the alleged incident undermines their scheme. Annamma intervenes, slapping Betty and granting Ittymaani greater control of the house.

A legal consultation reveals that Annamma can dispose of her assets to whomever she chooses, free from the children’s liability. The children propose offering money to Ittymaani to walk away, but he declares that he’ll leave only when Annamma herself wishes it. They intensify their performances of love and care to win her favor, and Annamma responds with warmth, hoping to maintain family harmony.

As the anniversary of their father’s death nears, the family arrives with documents to dissolve the marriage. Anticipating the move, Ittymaani and Annamma stage another ruse—claiming they are expecting a child—so Ittymaani cannot leave. A scuffle with Alex escalates; Annamma’s heart flares again, and she is rushed into emergency surgery, with her children balking at signing the consent forms. Ittymaani chooses to reveal the truth, breaking the illusion.

Realizing their missteps, Annamma’s heart softens, and she reconciles with her children. Ittymaani and Jessy wed, and Joji is reconciled with Ittymaani in the broader sense of family. In the end, it’s revealed that Ittymaani has been donating the commissions he earns to an old age home, a quiet gesture that underscores the film’s themes of generosity, responsibility, and the bonds that hold a family together.
