What Happens in Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu (2019) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Selvam is a lorry driver at an iron scrap yard, a gritty job that pays slowly and suffers from constant deductions as pieces of iron seem to vanish after each run. The operation is overseen by a tough boss, Basha Bhai, whose miserliness makes every paycheck feel thinner. Selvam’s dream is simple and personal: to marry his girlfriend Chittu and to own his own lorry the way his father once dreamed of. But the social world around him is harsh, and Chittu’s family views his line of work with distrust, suspecting him of theft and threatening the stability of their relationship.

Meanwhile, a secondary tale unfolds along the shore near Orissa, where World War II remnants wash up in the surf. An Al Jazeera–style reporter, Tanya, is driven to uncover the mysterious bombs—an event she believes connects to a larger, dangerous web. Her pursuit puts her at odds with powerful figures, including a Minister and a company boss who will do anything to stop her. The authorities even order police to kill Tanya and her ally, Sugi, to silence the story.

As the tension builds, Selvam decides to take one last shipment. In that final load, he discovers a bomb, but mistakes it for brass and leaves it behind, underestimating the danger it represents. He and his co-worker Puncture head toward the Chennai iron melting plant, trying to stay ahead of the trouble that seems to dog them. Concurrently, Chittu’s relatives plot to kill her for not obeying their wishes, but she manages to escape and reunite with Selvam.

At the melting plant, the boss rejects the notion that the bomb is significant, telling Selvam that it is merely a dangerous object. Panic grips Selvam, and in the chaos, Chittu is kidnapped by her relatives. Desperate, Selvam and Puncture decide to move the bomb, yet their plan falters as they consider concealing it near a school, a choice they quickly reconsider.

Tanya and Sugi, fleeing the police, cross paths with Selvam. Puncture inadvertently reveals to Tanya and Sugi that they possess the bomb the authorities are desperate to find. Moved by Tanya’s story, Selvam chooses to help her and they set out to track down the bomb, pursuing it to the hands of a fake priest. Chittu escapes once again from her relatives and makes her way to Selvam.

A tense confrontation erupts as Selvam faces off against the police and against a relative of Chittu. In the melee, a life is taken, and the police officer seizes the lorry carrying the bomb, running over Puncture’s leg in a bid to escape. Selvam fights the officer, but ultimately restrains himself from killing him. The aftermath leaves Selvam wrongly accused of possessing the bomb and he is arrested.

Months pass, and although the legal trouble swirls, Selvam’s personal dream begins to come true, while the Minister behind the conspiracy is finally arrested. The film closes on a note that blends hardship with a hard-won sense of justice and a future that Selvam can still claim.
