Intermedio

Malik, Gen, Barbie, and Wes arrive at the long-abandoned prospecting settlement in California and descend into the tunnels. They are watched from a distance by a mysterious old man who tugs on a necklace and pours what looks like blood on the ground, summoning ominous forces. The eerie start sets the stage for a deadly cat-and-mouse with unknown powers.

Inside the tunnels, the teens are forced along by Jorge, Al, and Zee as they haul contraband. Ghostly creatures materialize and attack, forcing uneasy allies to move toward the nearest hatch. During the chaos, Al is impaled by a creature's hook, and Barbie is killed while attempting to reach a higher exit; Zee disappears as danger escalates.

In the chaos, Wes is fatally stabbed and Jorge is killed by the creatures. Zee's disappearance deepens the group’s uncertainty as they scramble to find a way out. The survivors retreat into a boarded-up shack to regroup and survive the night.

Malik and Gen stumble into a room filled with dozens of bodies, a grim catalog of the town's dark history. Zee reappears and leads them toward a hidden path deeper into the tunnels. The discovery heightens the sense that the place is haunted by past horrors.

The pair finally makes a move toward the surface, only to realize they have lost the keys to their car. They approach a nearby house to ask for a ride, unaware that the owner is the mysterious old man orchestrating the terror. Tension rises as they realize they’ve walked into a trap.

The old man invites them into his truck and offers beer; Gen drinks and promptly passes out. Malik is stabbed in the legs and knocked out with chloroform, tightening the trap and taking the survivors out of the immediate escape. The old man's control over the situation becomes brutally clear.

Malik and Gen awaken back in the corpse-filled chamber and work free from their bindings. They crawl through a narrow tunnel under a bed to reach the old man's house, discovering newspaper clippings about Zee and the old man being suspected in the murder. The old man follows them, intensifying the pursuit.

Zee shows another hidden passage and the trio flee into the tunnels as the old man summons more of the ghastly creatures. Malik confronts the old man as he corners Gen, but Gen seizes the necklace and destroys it, unleashing the creatures to kill the old man.

Gen cuts herself and bleeds onto a rock as she says goodbye to Wes, then reunites with Malik to reach the surface and flag down a pickup at daybreak. The two push toward safety, their bond tested by the horrors they've faced.

Back at a motel, Malik ponders the old man's rumored control over spirits and whether they could be manipulated too. Gen shrugs off the idea, but the final image shows Wes and Barbie's bodies staring in through the motel window, leaving a haunting aftertaste.
