Inside the Mind of a Psychopath

After a long day cycling through a crowded Santiago neighborhood, Tila is arrested by Investigations Police. The film shifts to his prison cell lined with drawings and newspaper clippings about his case. The arrest marks a pivot from everyday fatigue to a life defined by the system.

Tila's defense attorney Rodrigo Soto visits him in prison. Their long, unflinching conversations reveal the breadth of his life and the patterns that led to his crimes. The dialogues anchor the backstory the film repeatedly revisits.

The narrative moves backward to Tila's difficult beginnings: repeated abuse from his mother, a schizophrenic woman. He spends time at Chile’s National Service of Minors, where he shines in artistic programs. These memories establish the roots of his later violence.

After leaving minors' service, Tila pursues an artistic path at a university but is denied admission because he never finished high school. The rejection signals a thwarted potential and fuels a sense of failed opportunity. This setback foreshadows his turn to crime.

Tila moves to Santiago and begins breaking into high‑end homes, stealing from residents, and raping women at gunpoint. Husbands are forced to witness the assaults, amplifying the brutality. This marks a shift from petty theft to violent crime.

He is eventually caught and sent to prison, where he endures abuse from Gendarmerie workers. The brutal treatment intensifies his resolve and dehumanization. The cycle of punishment continues to shape his psyche.

Freed again, he resumes the same pattern but becomes colder and more detached from the consequences of his actions. He continues sexual exploitation and theft with a chilling lack of remorse. The detachment completes his transformation into a remorseless predator.

Tila begins dating a high schooler, Tiare Pino, who often visits his home for sex and cocaine paste. She reveals she is pregnant but undergoes a clandestine abortion. This relationship adds a personal trigger to his escalating violence.

In a moment of fury, he kills Tiare by smashing her head with a hammer, then cannibalizes her remains, eating her uterus in a gruesome attempt to 'find his son.' He later burns what remains in a desolate area. The act epitomizes his complete moral collapse.

Back in prison and under constant surveillance, Tila awaits a life sentence. The claustrophobic confinement contrasts with the violent freedom he pursued before. This final confinement frames the last phase of his life.

Outside the prison, a truck crashes into an electricity pole, plunging Colina into a citywide blackout. He seizes the moment and hangs himself using the cable of an electric typewriter he had been using to write poetry and press statements. His death shields him from facing a life sentence.
