Martin Lowery, a determined scientist, is assigned to a research outpost during an unspecified pandemic. This outpost is located in a uniquely fertile forest near Bristol and is overseen by his former partner and ex-lover, Olivia Wendle, who is conducting experiments to boost crop production.

Upon arrival at the outpost, Martin successfully completes his physical examination. He then meets Alma, his park guide, who introduces him to the local folklore, particularly the legend of Parnag Fegg, a mysterious woodland spirit that captivates Martin's interest.

As dawn breaks, Martin and Alma embark on a two-day trek to Olivia's research site. However, during their journey, Alma shares unsettling news that Olivia has been out of contact for months, raising concerns about their safety as they move further into the forest.

Their adventure takes a dark turn when they discover an abandoned tent that appears to belong to a family. Signs of a struggle hint at something sinister happening in the area, foreshadowing the dangers that lie ahead.

That night, Martin discovers a rash forming on his arm, and soon after, both he and Alma are violently attacked by masked assailants. The attackers ransack their camp, vandalize their equipment, and steal their shoes, leaving Martin injured as he attempts to escape.

In a turn of fate, they meet Zach, a man living off the grid, who offers assistance by providing them with shoes. He takes Martin to his campsite to tend to Martin's injured foot, but a sense of unease settles as they realize something isn't right.

After being treated for his injury, Martin and Alma succumb to the effects of a drug that Zach has administered. While unconscious, Zach proceeds to take unsettling photographs of them, marking Martin as part of a ritual tied to the forest's lore.

Upon regaining his senses, Martin learns from Zach about the mysterious symbol on his arm, which is said to summon an ancient presence in the woods. As he comes to terms with the unfolding events, Martin's injury worsens, leading Zach to perform a harrowing amputation.

With newfound determination, Alma manages to retrieve a discarded blade and frees herself and Martin from Zach's hold. However, during their escape, they become separated, leaving Martin to confront the horrors of the forest alone.

As Martin wanders through the forest, he stumbles upon two bodies believed to be from the family that once occupied the abandoned tent. This grim discovery amplifies the sense of dread and urgency as he seeks a way to survive.

Just as Martin encounters the standing stone, Olivia arrives to rescue him. While Alma is battling her own struggles, together they face the terrifying presence that Zach has summoned throughout their ordeal in the woods.

In the early hours, Olivia cauterizes Martin's wound and reveals her research intentions. She discloses that Zach, her ex-husband, was once helping her but their divergent methods led to conflict, creating a tense atmosphere among the trio.

As a mist filled with fungal spores envelops the area, Alma is sent through the fog while wearing a hazmat suit. Unfortunately, the spores infiltrate her protection, leading to terrifying hallucinations that heighten the group's precarious situation.

Zach reappears with ominous intentions, claiming that they must connect with the stone through special sounds and partake in a sacrament hinted at in the ancient text. Martin's apprehension grows as he contemplates consuming the sacrament.

As Alma fights back against Zach's horrific plans, she discovers Olivia surrounded by disturbing photographs of their past victims. Amidst the chaos, Alma manages to kill Zach, leading to a climactic confrontation that leaves both women at the mercy of their environment.
