Nils Dickman, a dedicated snow plow driver in Tyos, Norway, is honored as the Citizen of the Year for his contributions to the community. This recognition reflects his commitment to helping others and showcases the esteem in which the townspeople hold him.

Nils's life takes a tragic turn when his son, Ingvar, is found dead from a heroin overdose. This shocking news devastates Nils, who cannot believe his son was involved with drugs and begins to suspect foul play.

Despite the circumstances surrounding Ingvar's death, the police show indifference, leading Nils to feel increasingly frustrated and angered by their negligence. He struggles with the unbearable grief of losing his son, feeling that the justice system has let them down.

Just when Nils contemplates taking his own life amidst the pain, he learns from Finn, Ingvar’s friend, that his son was a victim, mistakenly killed by drug dealers. This revelation ignites a fierce desire for vengeance within Nils, pushing him to seek justice.

In his quest for revenge, Nils turns to his brother Egil, a reformed criminal who now leads an honest life. Egil suggests that Nils needs to hire a hitman to confront the powerful crime boss known as Greven.

Nils takes Egil’s advice and hires Kineseren, a skilled Danish-Japanese hitman. This decision spirals Nils deeper into the world of crime, setting off a chain reaction that will lead to chaos and bloodshed.

In response to the attacks on his men, Greven reacts violently by kidnapping a member of a rival gang to extract information. His ruthlessness reveals the dangers of the criminal underworld as he executes the abducted man when he refuses to talk.

Unbeknownst to Greven, the man he kills is the son of Papa, the Serbian mafia’s ruthless leader. This act sets off a power struggle and retaliation within the criminal factions, intensifying the unfolding chaos.
