I Remember You

An elderly woman is found hanged inside an old Icelandic church. Freyr, a doctor, assists the police and Dagny links the case to the unsolved disappearance of a boy named Bernódus. The discovery also marks the start of Freyr’s visions of Bernódus.

Dagny presents a photo of Bernódus’s classmates, showing eight faces scratched out with crosses. She explains the classmates were known bullies, and the carved crosses echo the abuse Bernódus suffered from his religious father. The link hints at a pattern of deaths connected to Bernódus’s past.

As Freyr grapples with his own unresolved grief over his missing son Benni, he starts seeing visions of Bernódus. The apparitions deepen the sense that the boy’s disappearance is connected to the crimes unfolding around him. The visions blur the line between medicine and haunting.

The couple and Katrín’s friend Líf relocate to a secluded, decades-abandoned hamlet to renovate an old house into a bed and breakfast. They face isolation with no cell signal. The move sets the stage for paranormal disturbances tied to Bernódus’s legacy.

Exploring the area, Katrín discovers a cemetery with a missing headstone. Unsettling sounds, Bernódus’s ghost near the creek, and creeping dread accompany the renovation. The haunting escalates as the house reveals buried memories connected to the boy.

Inside the hamlet house, Katrín ventures into the cellar and discovers Bernódus’s body, holding a picture of his mother who resembles Katrín. The shocking find connects the haunting to the ongoing crime history. The group is shaken and left with more questions.

With no phone reception and mounting fear, the trio decides to move to another unoccupied home nearby. The retreat is meant to provide safety, but the supernatural tension continues to mount in their new surroundings.

Freyr’s world intersects with Benni’s mystery when his autistic friend hints that Benni was last seen in something described as a green submarine. Freyr learns the eighth bully was Úrsúla, and a clairvoyant corroborates that Benni’s ghost is tied to the house’s haunting.

Katrín learns that Garðar and Líf had been having an affair during their estrangement. They plan to run away together and abandon Katrín, heightening the tension. While they’re discussing their future, they are attacked by Bernódus’s ghost and the chimney collapses, killing Garðar and mortally wounding Líf.

Katrín discovers Líf was pregnant and that Garðar and Líf had intended to run away. Devastated, she leaves Garðar and Líf’s bodies and sleeps in the cellar beside Bernódus’s corpse, unable to call for help. The house grows increasingly haunted as the past closes in.

Freyr wakes in the middle of the night and chases the Bernódus ghost through the hamlet. The pursuit leads him to Úrsúla, who claims Bernódus is always with her and reveals that Bernódus was awakened by Benni’s ghost. She recounts observations of Bernódus’s movements and his arrival in the area.

Dagny deciphers that Benni’s supposed 'green submarine' is actually a septic tank. She reviews gas station footage showing Katrín, Garðar, and Líf carrying a septic tank to the house during renovations, revealing a decades-earlier plot. Dagny posits that Benni crawled into the septic tank and died.

Benni’s body is discovered inside the septic tank at the abandoned house. Freyr travels there and encounters the ghosts of Katrín and Bernódus in the cellar, but he leaves with Benni’s body. The ghosts hold hands as Katrín and Bernódus watch from the shadows.
