Holiday on the Buses

Stan's distracted driving on the garage forecourt causes a major accident. A wardrobe malfunction draws his attention away from the road, and he brakes hard, sending Blakey tumbling and injured. The incident creates the first of several disasters for the bus crew.

Jack fails to look behind, crashing into the manager's car. The impact traps the manager underneath the bonnet, creating a tense, frantic rescue. The forecourt chaos escalates as the consequences of carelessness mount.

A further crash damages two of the company's buses after a third vehicle collides with Stan's bus. The scale of the damage forces the manager to sack Stan, Blakey, and Jack. The trio's livelihoods are abruptly ended, pushing them to seek new work.

Out of work, Stan and Jack struggle at the labour exchange and fail to find anything suitable. Weeks pass before Jack spots a newspaper advert for a bus crew and arranges an interview. They secure the advertised job at a Pontins holiday camp in Prestatyn.

Stan and Jack attend the Pontins interview and join as a tour-bus crew at the North Wales camp. The new role offers a fresh start away from the streets they know. They accept the position with cautious optimism.

Blakey, with his foot still recovering, also takes a job at the camp as security inspector. His new role gives him a sense of purpose and keeps him close to the crew's antics. The trio's professional paths now intersect in a different setting.

The Butler family travels to Pontins on Stan's staff discount, but a mishap on the way causes them to lose most of their luggage in the river. One case arrives muddy and ruined, heightening the chaos around their holiday. The mishap foreshadows further domestic difficulties at the camp.

Blakey keeps an eye on Stan and Jack while teaching an old-time dancing class for the camp's guests. He develops a soft spot for the camp nurse, adding a personal subplot to the summer chaos. His dual role keeps him busy and endearing amidst the hijinks.

Mum forms a close friendship with Bert, an Irish widower staying at the camp. Their budding companionship adds warmth to the holiday's farce. She enjoys the companionship as the family settles into camp life.

Stan tries to win over Mavis, a staff guest, but is thwarted by her overbearing mother. The pursuit plays out with interruptions during bicycles rides and beach time. The mother's interference complicates Stan's romance as he tries to balance work with flirtation.

Stan's flirtation with Maria seems to crest when her protective brother Luigi confronts him. Luigi beats Stan after a tense confrontation, and Blakey mishears the events, leading to further confusion. The manager later clarifies that no romance occurred in his chalet.

Inspector Blakey is fired for having romantic liaisons with the camp nurse, breaching staff policies. The loss hits Stan and Jack hard and signals a turning point in their camp life. The incident underscores the strict policies at the camp and the fragile alliances among the trio.

As the stay ends, the Butler family suffers one more luggage mishap on their return journey, again near the river. Meanwhile, Stan and Jack attempt a late-night bus trip to the beach, but the bus sinks in the wet sand and cannot be moved. The latest blunder seals their latest dismissal and leaving them jobless again.

After dismissal, Stan and Jack return to the labour exchange, only to find Blakey working there as a clerk. He initially gloats, but soon helps them by offering a suitable job for someone who 'smashes things up.' The film ends with Stan training as a wrecking-ball driver for a demolition company, bringing down a building.
