Howard is a mild‑mannered, slightly simple‑minded delivery driver who habitually picks up teenage hitchhikers. Some claim to be runaways, and when they reveal hatred for their mothers, Howard erupts into violent frenzy—fuelled by his own sister’s disappearance and his mother’s overbearing grip. He has no recollection of raping or strangling the girls with coat‑hanger wire, though his boss begins to notice missed deliveries and frequent tardiness.
